Possible New Modification Rule

I went to modify a reservation this morning and when the screen came up showing me the resorts, it was not possible to check the boxes for Aulani or VGC and there was language I had not seen before:
"Trying to select a different Resort destination? You may be unable to make that modification online. However, you can cancel your existing reservation and then make a new reservation for your preferred Resort. Or, you can call Member Services at (800) 800-9800 for assistance."
My first reaction was, "That's going to add another 30 minutes to our wait times when calling Member Services." I suspect it has something to do with whatever residency or testing requirements those two states have.

That is interesting. I tried and got the same thing but it let me choose them to book new.

So, it doesn’t seem like it should be related to that since it’s force you to call for all but it’s only modification.

It's actually been showing for me for at least a week now. We're still able to modify as far as I can tell (been stalking to try to get BCV for the whole trip).

I've been wondering about this! The parks are for California residents only but can anyone stay at the VGC? I didn't see anything about restrictions so far. Not really sure what they're doing. We own at VGC out-of-state but can't stay there?

Other than purposefully making it harder for members to do a modification, I cannot think of any valid reason for the change.

I wonder if they're trying to fix some of the resale borrowing problems and introduced an unexpected new problem. It doesn't sound intentional to me.

Anyone can stay at VGC. There are no restrictions and never have been for visitors to CA.

It is only for the parks.

And we will see how it shakes out, but so far the state is not saying the parks have to enforce the rule, they are just hoping people will respect it. Since we live in California that isn't really an issue for us, but do know that the rules will change again when the hardest hit areas in California reach 4 million vaccinations and my guess is that will be when they open it up to everyone. But again, who knows, things change constantly here.

Absolutely that Disney could decide to look the other way. I doubt they will but I was only responding to staying at VGC. No matter the rules for DL, that is open to all.

I might have the answer to this (or a suspicion, anyway). We bought resale Riviera and get that exact message when booking anything. I wonder if it is populating to other resorts incorrectly that obviously don’t have the same restrictions as resale Riviera does.

If they can’t keep the website running properly they really need to figure out this phone situation. Really they need to do that anyway. Constantly having an hour wait or busy line is not acceptable and they are trying to pass it off as if it’s just their busy time. I quoted you to say good luck and keep trying! I just completed my BCV reservation for 7 nights at the end of August into September in a studio. BCV studio for a week during summer and likely food and wine that NEVER happens. So excited! pixiedust:

Thanks for adding the quarantine info. That certainly makes it tough. Maybe it will be gone by the time it opens though? But, one Could still stay there if they wanted to enjoy the resort.

Disney, and the state of California, needs to update their restrictions to allow the fully vaccinated to skip quarantine, as per the latest CDC guidance.

It could be coming. NY is ending it April 1st. But, I don’t think Disney can override the rules of the state or county. Unfortunately I think the parks are at the mercy of that which is too bad for those that want to visit any CA park.

I guess you can travel to CA and stay at VGC, but you need to quarantine in the resort for 10 days per the state travel advisor on 1/6/21, which is still in place.
It needs to be noted that the advisory says you should quarantine for 10 days, not that you must do so, wording is very key here in California. Just know if you fly into LAX and are staying in LA County, that changes to must; however, if staying in Orange county, it is should.

I don't disagree there; however, that is unlikely in our state until something forces them to do so.

Well with a end of May reservation and not being from California my guess is if we went anyway it would feel like a quarantine watching people in the park from our balcony... This might be the first time in my life I would prefer a non-park view :sad2:

Fair enough, who knows where we will be at by May though.

I spoke to member services as I had this issue when trying to modify an existing reservation to Aulani. They said that you now can’t modify an existing reservation to another state, so I had to cancel the existing and make a new reservation.
