I was paying for something today at New Orleans square & 2 female CM's were at the register. One said she heard that Disneyland may take away the AP discounts & possibly decrease the cost of the AP.

This was my exact response, "What?!?!? No way! I don't think they'd do that." I told her that having the discounts is a perk, causing more Disney money to come into the parks.

The other CM said she hadn't heard of this rumor.

Granted, I don't know how reliable the information is that she's getting. Then she's trying to start telling people of this possibility. Who knows how many people she has already been saying this to. The other CM was trying to explain that AP's used to not have discounts. This whole conversation made me a little upset because I hope this is not true!

I think this rumor is false. Disneyland is not going to decrease the price of anything. And if they do take away the discount, everyone is going to spend a lot less money at Disneyland so I don't see that happening either. But then again, I never underestimate corporate greed so they might take away the discount, but they will not decrease prices unless park attendance drops big.

Right?!?!? I didn't think this could be possible, especially if it means a lot less spending on our part. I wish she hadn't said that.

There was talk about the discounts disappearing last year when we went. Although I can't remember if it was all discounts or if it was just hotel discounts.

If they do try any of this, hopefully all of the passholders can come together and fight it through social media to force Disney to give back the discounts.
I remember the social media campaign verizon users started a few years back. It worked like a charm for them.:thumbsup2

It won't surprise me if the extra discounts go away. The extra 10% promotion started 5 years ago and Disney has been careful to say that it will only last until the end of the year every year that it's been extended. http://www.ocregister.com/articles/disney-560340-strong-discounts.html

At one point the 10% premium discount required a $10 minimum purchase. And So Cal dining discount was only valid at Pizza Port and Plaza Inn. Deluxe also got French Market and Premium got 15% at Blue Bayou and 10% everywhere else. I don't expect that they'd change dining discounts or bring back a minimum purchase, but they might drop the extra. Then they can offer it as an incentive at events, like the after hours renewal events if they continue those..

There were a lot of questions about the discounts and various perceived values on the AP survey my 18 yro son received a few days ago. Interesting.

We are AP but only go to parks a couple of times a year. We routinely forget about the discount and were only asked once on the trip (5 days) if we had an AP. Our own fault but it would be nice if they reminded a person. This happened in the parks, in DTD and at our hotel PPH. We would easily have saved over $100 had we remembered or been reminded.

The nice CM at IASM gift shop asked when we bought our rain ponchos but that was the only time. Hopefully we remember better next visit!

At one point, only Premium APs had merchandise discounts (and dining discounts) and the Deluxe APs only had dining discounts...back when Premium APs would only get 10-15% off merchandise, instead of the 20% they now get.

If they decreased the cost of the AP and then offered no merchandise discounts, hmm, that would just let me buy less (or use the Disney Visa discount, not sure)...

Really? We ALWAYS get asked on every purchase! Even food. Interesting...

We definitely spend a lot more now on dinning and merchandise since getting AP's and we're doing 18 park days over 4 trips vs 1 3-day trip the year w/o the pass. In fact we have 2 deluxe and 1 premium pass but we're upgrading the other 2 deluxe to premium so we can go next week.

Maybe we look and sound too "Canadian" so they assume we aren't APs?!

A good trick to remember is to put your AP in front of your cash/CC so when you go to pay you can give them the AP because you'll see it....that stinks that no one asked you. :headache:
