Do rides under refurbishment ever open early? Our last day at MK is Nov. 15, and Splash is scheduled to reopen Nov. 16.

Do rides ever open up early? How would we know? (Would they show up with wait times in MDE? Do we just walk by and check? Do I check in at Disboards for someone to post?) :)

Splash is scheduled to reopen November 17. November 16 would have been my last day in the parks, as I was scheduled to start home on the 17th. Instead I am going to MK after I check out to ride Splash several times, including one FP. I will be later starting for home, but oh well. I will still be home on the 18th.

My last day is the 16th and am also hoping it will open early, but I’m not holding my breath. We will be back in April so I may just have to wait.

I think they sometimes open rides early, usually unannounced. Soft openings are standard practice. Given the time it's taking for refurbishment, it better be spectacular. FWIW, the MVMCP page lists SM as available to ride on the 14th, but I wouldn't read too much into it (since this could be one hand not knowing what the other is doing).

I hope this happens, as MVMCP on the 14th is our last park day.

In my head, I am speculating that the additional refurbishment window added for January means that they are doing less work during the current refurb. than was originally scheduled, and are deferring some of that work until January, which would ultimately mean that the current refurb. could finish sooner than scheduled. I have no actual knowledge to support this statement.

Thanks for all the replies. I am hoping for some pixie dust for all of us that it opens a few days early. :)

I have seen and heard of rides having "soft openings" where random people are chosen to ride them prior to the official openings. They were doing that with 7DMT when we were there just prior to opening.

I'm pretty bummed Splash won't be running this trip as I've never had the nerve to ride it and was really psyched up this time around to go with my 9 year old since it's a special trip for the two of us and it's one of his favorites. But our last day is also the 15th. We'll be back again though so I guess I can wait for the next trip.

We’ve had it happen, with Splash, one day before scheduled opening. It opened around 1pm and by chance my DH and DS1 were getting off BTMRR and jumped right in line. They called me and I rushed over from the other side of the park with DS2. We pretty much walked on, but by the time we got off word had clearly spread and there was over an hour wait.

It was pure pixie dust - right place, right time - but it does happen!

Soft openings are usually for new rides so they can test the rides with guests. Splash is not a new ride.

Has January closure been confirmed?

Anything is possible, but really depends on the refurb and work being done. Refurbs are usually to repair/fix stuff that has broken, and they have a pretty good idea how long that will take to do. Especially with something like Splash that has to get pretty intensive refurbs each year. If they have scheduled extra time in January (not currently on the "official" calendar) then progress may be going slower than expected.
