Accepting that the majority would not visit WDW without the parks open, could OKW and SSR be the first open resort if DTD starts to open ahead of the parks

OKW and THV have outside entrances and SSR is more like a condo than a hotel and they have lots of parking to accommodate a higher car to plane ratio transportation

I think that would make for a lot of unhappy campers. I own at SSR, but if I owned VGF, I would want it open if I was planning a trip. Too many owners would be losing out on their resort time.

No if they open one they will probably open them all. But will there be enough people to go to cause issues. Depending on when they open, people should still practice social distancing and proper hygiene.

If Florida is anything like Texas, they will likely be opening quicker than many think. They are apparently planning on opening Texas State parks by the end of April, but requiring masks and distancing. Probably similar rules for things like Six Flags, Sea World, and zoos/museums. I'm guessing a mid to late may openings for those types of venues here in Texas. They say group size should be 5 or less. I'm thinking they'll also require hand sanitizer stations in a lot of venues.

I can see how this could work for e.g. state parks--Michigan's state parks and recreation areas are open, but only for hiking, biking, running, and non-motorized water sports and with a requirement that folks remain six feet from those not in their immediate family. I don't see how this works for a theme park where by design people are put in close proximity to one another.

I saw pictures of the beaches in Jacksonville and it didn't appear that the people were following the guidelines. I thought it was only supposed to be 50 people on the beach, there were way more people on the beach probably in the 100s. I think it's kind of strange to say a random number like 50, how would that be enforced?

I would say that they might open SSR, OKW, RIV, and Kidani. BLT is a 50/50 chance. The other resorts have shared expenses and I don't know how those would work if Disney did not want to open their portion of the resort.

It is groups of More than 50...but was then changed to 10..that was ordered,

So, as long groups stayed small, and apart from other groups, they are fine.

What would be difficult if they open only some and not all, how do you deal with the points?

Can owners of closed resorts use their points at open ones? I’d be surprised if they would want to deal with that layer Vs just opening them all

Well based on the picture I saw I think it's pretty hard to determine who is with who and if you can't determine that how would you know how large the groups are? Also they were all pretty close together...just sayin...Good Luck!

I would take these concerns about people in a wide open space like a beach more seriously, if someone could demonstrate that a single person has ever got the virus by being breathed on in public....

I'm not really that concerned just saying what I saw. Also mentioning that I don't know how the guidelines could be enforced. Guess I'm saying it's kind of hard to police something like that so maybe pointless to put stipulations in place that can't be enforced.

Given the anger, and in some cases pure rage that is being expressed in these threads, under what circumstances could DVC successfully open some DVC resorts, but not all?

Hypothetically, if OKW did open first and a significant number of non-owners comprised the initial reservations, then can you imagine the number of calls Member Services would receive from owners who perceive themselves as entitled to have priority access?

As of now it is clear that re-opening reservations would be inside the 7 month window so there would be no home resort preference, though I am sure at least a few would think there should be

I'm unclear what you are referencing? There would still be lots of 11 month bookings that were made for whatever dates they open. They have not cancelled all existing reservations so that owners would be booking new ones once opening was announced.

The points that are past the banking deadline are all within the 7 month window as very likely is the reopen date so for those points home resort preference is not an issue, that is what I was considering as re-opening reservations

Jacksonville opened their beach today.

The pictures... Well, I think they are a good indicator of how people will act if Disney opens.

Yup and I also think it shows that DeSantis will allow WDW to open very soon. So really it will be Disney making the decision when it’s actually safe, not the Florida government.

But, the question remains if an owner of a closed resort, regardless of booking window, is allowed to use points in the system when their resort is not there to trade into,

It would be the same principle as to why one can’t use points from a new resort until it actually opens...there is not an equal trading element.

If they open only two resorts, what of all those with bookings at the closed resorts?

It creates another problem layer much like the current layer where the most likely impacted owners have April and June UY, only this would spread around based on booking site and start impacting people with upcoming UY.
