I've seen quite a few timeshare questions lately. So, I thought maybe we could share positive exp. on this thread. When did you go, which resort (or mang company), what did you get in exchange?

We've never done one, but might be open to it in the future. Thanks for sharing!! :)

DVC - this is a very nice experience. You might get a free lunch or free express passes - but nothing great. Only go if you think you want to buy DVC - because after seeing a DVC resort it is hard to resist.

Marriott - great!! got money at the one in Orlando I think $125. Got marriott money in HH, SC - $175 that I spend on souveniors.

Westgate - avoid this one at all costs. these people are pretty horrible. got some discounted tickets (mind you not free ones like I was promised)

fairfield - got a discount on rooms and a meal discount.

some of those Bahama/cruises plus Orlando vacations are not what they appear. these are to get you to go to timeshares. they are rip offs. they did not tell us before about the timeshare representation and came to get us for an adventure from the hotel.... there were a ton of us mad!!!

so anything that appears to be too good - avoid. you can try to find out about the company offering it. just because it does not appear on the BBB list of complaints - doesn't mean anything. This group was on its fifth name by this time. probably on the 10th by now. oh one more thing I was warned about the little extra fees. well those little fees were not little. a trip that was surpose to be under $300 - ended up costing me over $2,735. I priced the items that I could (the day cruise line would not give me prices - even got AAA to try it and they refused). and it ended up being without the cruise around $350 so even adding the cruise at $300 per person (and this day cruise was a big rip off) it would be $950 - not what I paid.....

I haven't gone yet, but we are taking two companies up on their offers that were sent to us.

Marriot Horizons (4 nights) - $199 for a two bedroom villa

Vistana Village (3 nights) - $274 for a two bedroom villa. Includes park ticket (1 day for 2 adults) and a character breakfast.

I owe each company 90 minutes each for a timeshare presentation.

I am interested in finding out about how much of a hard sell they are. We are just in the research stage of timeshares at this point, so we will not be buying right now.

It's something that I'm thinking of in the future. My MIL just purchased one of those cruise pkg/timeshare things. I think she got ripped off. The Orlando part will be w/ Summer Bay. She's paying a lot more than a "free stay" is.

HI...one of the great suggestions I recieved for the presentation is to bring a small clock or take off your watch, put it on the table the minute you walk in and say, "You have 90 minutes" and set the scene right away. They may not like it but they do this every day and have seen it all.

They make money by selling way over priced timeshares to people who react on the spur of the moment. The longer the have you the more they will pressure to sell...Disney is a little different, I am sure, but it is ALL ABOUT THE MONEY!!!

OOOPS, this was supposed to be positive....
Did Orange Lake to get a couple of one day tickets for our kids...started out very nice...then as we said no, we were moved up the food chain to top management...Finally had a cold farewell after 3 attempts to drop the price, sell us "older" units and so on...we did get our tickets and were gone in just over 90 minutes...went through 4 sales people, though...but I still had my skin, no bruises, no burns, no bumps, no rips in the seat of my pants!!!!

Keep your guard up!!!
Ted

We just bring our twins, feed them lots of sugar beforehand, and let destruction take its course! We've done this once -- and it worked -- out of there lickety split.

We're doing the Hilton ts presentation in three weeks. Hope no one from there is reading this right now!

Hi...Flagdaytwins may have given us an idea for a whole new cottage industry in Orlando..."Rent-a-Set-of-Twins" for an hour just to take to Time Share presentations....I love it...
I imagine those little ones did more than any suggestions any of us could ever make...to speed things along........pure genius!!!

All the best...Ted

the Marriott shouldn't be a problem.

but Vistana - not sure. Some people say hard sell. Others disagree. I guess it just depends upon the person you get.

Say upfront that you are not interested in buying. You are here for the great rate.

the Marriott is hard to resist. but I own at DVC can't afford 2 brand names. my other timeshares are cheap ones.

one has a relationship with VRI (was with bluegreen - but the management was horrible).

the other is in South Africia - don't laugh - it was fairly cheap and the maintence fees are still reasonable.
