I'm in need of your help and opinions, please!! :sunny:

A friend of mine just recently had one of her wedding photos (below) made into a huge painting done on canvas in acrylic paint. After seeing how beautiful her portrait came out, I decided I wanted to have one done of my boyfriend and I.

Here's where I need your help and opinions...I need to submit a few photos to the artist for him to work off of. I can't find any pictures that I really really like of my BF and I, so I was considering having someone take some pictures of us this weekend. Do you think it would be odd to have pictures that are posed for this? I'm really not sure if I want the painting of a photo that is front-on. I was thinking of having someone take pictures of us looking at each other, or looking away from the camera.

Take a look at some of the artwork he has done and let me know your opinions.

It wouldn't hurt to try posing for some pictures. Then if there are a few you like take them to the artist and talk with him about which he thinks would work best.

If you've got a college nearby, even a local community college. Check their bulletin boards. You can get some very talented students to do some beautiful work for very little money.

I paid a student to do a charcoal drawing of a photo of our dog for my wife's birthday. Grand total $30. Had a different student do one of our son a few years later. The results were amazing and huge and only cost me $60.

It's my understanding that most portrait painters these days work almost exclusively from photos of their subjects anyway, so I would guess that it's not unusual at all to sit for a photo session to produce photos for the painter to use.

Depending on the style of the painting, the painter might want just a couple of pics or might want a bunch of pics to get a better idea of your overall appearance, skin tones, expressions, body posture, etc.

I would definitely take lots of pics for the artist to see! His work is amazing!
