I was going to ask for West Wing due to closeness to the water taxi/ pool...some people have posted horrible reviews on Trip Advisor on the noise/fire alarms going off..blackened windows..Anyone just come back and can comment on this? We are going next week. Thanks!

Hmmm. I just looked at the July reviews on Trip Advisor and most of them are 5 stars. I see one or two mentioning painting. There is always someone who will not be happy.

Just there over the 4th of July. West wing no construction, east wing construction on the facade.

Hi . I plan on staying there in a couple of weeks for 2 nights (after a Disneyworld stay) and I look at the Trip Advisor reviews almost everyday and didnt see alot of recent complaints about construction, noise, etc. Are you sure you are looking at the more recent reviews (search by date)? I see mostly great reviews of this hotel.

I'm not saying most-just in the last week there were a couple complaints so just wondering if ppl could comment on how bad it is...I'm sure the hotel is beautiful, just wondering if it is being made out to be worse than it is...and it was just mentioned on the west wing during last week. Sorry-just thought I'd ask.

Oh you should ask! I wasn't trying to infer that you shouldn't but just to point out that most of the comments make no mention of it at all.

I was just there last weekend. I had a room in the east wing on the fourth floor. I got a cheaper rate because they said it was a blocked view due to construction. I went ahead and booked it because the view was not important to me.

The windows were totally covered you could not see out at at all. I didn't mind, I knew that before we arrived. What I didn't know was how nosiy it would be. We went to the parks at 7 a.m. and we come back to the room early afternoon to nap. That was impossible to do. Right outside our window I heard drills, hammers. No way could you nap. I wish they told me about the noise when i booked the room. The discount I got was not low enough to put up with all that noise.

Other then that, we had a great time and we love the Portofino!!

Maybe they are done with the West WIng then...sorry you had a the noise issues...we have 2 young ones so I'm sure we'd like to go back to room to take naps (me included!)

Probably would have been fine for those not needing to go back to the room to nap but they should have given you a heads up and a better rate.

Just got back and there definitely was construction going on. The first night we had a deluxe room no where near the construction but we decided to stay another night and they gave us a cheap rate because our "view was obstructed". It didn't bother me at all until this morning when they began working and all you could hear were beeping sounds from the machines. Other than that it was fine. I needed to wake up anyway. :)

Greystroke-what wing were you just in...where is the construction? We leave Wednesday. Thanks.

The first night we stayed in a Deluxe Room and I think the room number was 2236 and it was directly in the center of where the marina is. No issues there. However, the next night we were in the East wing, room 1164 and that was right in the heart of the construction.
