Portland Oregon Suggestions Please

Any suggestions for things to do or places to eat in Portland?

We will be there for 10 days over Christmas visiting family, but our family of 5 (kids are two teens and a tween, all boys) plans to spend some time on our own.

Not sure if I want to haul winter clothes/boots for skiing from the east coast.

I would love to read your suggestions!

If I was to ski in Oregon it would only be at Hood which is near Portland in the summer. Or Bachelor which is not close to Portland.

I would really try posting this on the California and the west board.

Maybe you will find a local of portland to help you out. I would reccomend a great sandwhich shop but only because their first store is in my town and they opened a couple of other locations and one happens to be in Portland. Though I really love, I don't know that it has the following there that it does here.

the portland oregon arboretum is cool i been there. lots of photo oppurtinties!

Not sure about Portland but an hour away is Cannon Beach which has the world's largest monolith in the ocean. Very cool to see. Neat little town as well.

i been to newport,oregon which is a 4 our drive from portland.. they have a historic bridge there that is awesome. nice little place. mo's has the best clam chowder!!

The science museum is very nice way to spend a day.

Sorry! I wish I would have seen this before! I live in Portland. Newport is only 2 1/2 away, the same as Cannon Beach. I wish it was a hour away lol
