Portions at Counter Service

I have read before that the portions are large at the restaurants in Disney and that a lot of times you could probably share and be fine.

Is this true with the counter service meals as well?

We are on a budget, so we won't be able to afford many, if any sit down restaurants I imagine, so I am wondering about the counter service restaurants?

Can anyone offer any insight into this?:confused3

I personally did not find the counter service portions to be all that large. The amount they gave filled me up, but I would have been hungry if I had to share some of my food.

But, I know alot of other posters on these boards think the portions are large enough that sharing is a definite option.

I guess it depends whether you have big eaters in your group or not? :confused3

The only counter service I found large enough to share is the chicken rib combo at Cosmic Rays MK, and the Schwarma platter at Tangierine cafe Morrocco epcot. And even then, I dont like to share these;) Actually the breakfast platters at the resort food courts are large enough to share.

Tangerine Cafe, WPE and Cosmic Rays have huge portions.

My mom and I shared most of our counter service meals. As others have mentioned Cosmic Rays combo meal is huge. We also shared the chicken and fish combo at Columbia Harbor House and a burger at Pecos Bills (we cut it in half and got a Mickey Bar for dessert).
It will really depend on how much you like to eat whether sharing will work.

Being on the dining plan, and having so much food, as well as doing char breakfasts every morn it was A LOT of food. I think we could have shared a burger at Pecos Bills, and Cosmic Rays, Also places in World Showcase like the fish and chips we shared. It really is a lot on the dining plan, and we sometimes did not feel the need to use a counter service being still full from Breakfast, so depending on how big of eaters your family is I thinbk it might be possible to share.

CS portions aren't usually huge but DH and I will split a double cheeseburger and fries upon occasion but that's usually b/c we have a big meal planned for later on. DH is a big eater so it's not always feasible to split CS meals.

Instead of sharing, here's another suggestion. You can get just the sandwich even though it's not posted on the menu (most items are part of a basket or a meal). So one of us will get the full meal (usually comes with a drink) and one of us will get another sandwich only. Then we split everything.

Also, check out the kids menus. Very easy to order those at counter service. I like the ones at Flame Tree BBQ at Animal Kingdom. Chicken wings, yum!

For a quick snack or even lunch - you can split a foot long hot dog and then get a soft pretzel. Those pretzels are huge!

My family just returned from DW last week. My mom and I split CS meals several times. We split a double hamburger meal at least three times, just asked for an extra bun. We were never charged for the extra bun although I have read on here that sometimes they do charge something like .75 cents or so. The fries were plenty for us to share. You can also ask for no ice in your fountain drink and for an extra cup. We also split chicken fingers. I will say that my mom and I are not huge eaters. Our own burger and some fries are plenty for us. Perhaps you could split a double hamburger but also get an extra order of fries if you wanted more food.

Also the entree salads were a nice size and could be split.

I also brought individual packets of iced tea mix with me to the parks. You can get free cups of ice water (they always gave us large cups) at the counters. So if one drink isn't enough for you to split you could also get a large ice water for nothing. I don't care for plain tap water but it was fine for me with the iced tea mix.

Have fun!

i usually get the chicken strips/fries with drink & dessert as CS, and it's always too much for me to finish (but i don't eat much, anyway)

DW and I shared quite a few CS meals last time we were there. We were both full.

Just depends on your appetite really.

We've learned over the years that for our family of 4 (DH, DD12, DS8, and myself), we normally order 2 meals and one extra side item, like a salad or fruit and split it between us for lunch. I'm sure that equation will change somewhat as the kids get older, but it's been the same for several years now. If we don't get filled up enough at lunch, it's just a good excuse for an afternoon ice cream break...what can be better than that? ::MinnieMo
