I did a search for this, but didn't quite find an answer, so here I am! The thread about needing a porthole made me wonder about the size of the ones on Deck 2 of the Dream. We are in room 2048 for our cruise and am curious whether it will be a big porthole or 2 smaller ones. Thanks in advance for your responses!

Here, this puts it into perspective:

Thanks so much!!! And that picture is perfect :thumbsup2 I can't wait to take my kiddies pic in there too!!!! I think I may be even more excited now :woohoo: My parents have an inside room, so we'll get to see the virtual porthole too!

My daughter read in there every night before bed. I couldnt keep the kids out of it. It is so wide that I think all 3 of them were in there together most times! We loved our room. It was the perfect location and we never heard a single noise!

Are they the same size in Deck 2 rooms on the Magic?

t will be a big one, the two small portholes are on deck 1.

just to clarify....there are no passenger cabins on Deck 1 of the Dream and no cabins with 2 portholes in a Cat 9B.

The Magic and Wonder cabins on Deck 1 have two smaller portholes and the cabins on Deck 2 have one large one.

The Dream Deck 2 portholes are a wee bit smaller than the Deck 2 portholes on Magic and Wonder but still a great window.

Here is a pic of Cabin #2004 on the Dream....

Do the large portholes on the Magic/Wonder also have the seating area like the Dream, although smaller?

I loved deck 2. We were in 2538, which is mid ship, right near the steps . The porthole was great. We were a bit hesitant to climb in there at night since the lighting outside the ship made the water look closer and more threatening than it really was. Bit one thing was certain, we never felt cramped for a second in the room.

I am booked on deck 2 on the Fantasy and I inquired about the difference in the portholes. I was told that deck 2 portholes were 36 inches and no window seat. The higher decks had portholes that were 52 inches and you could sit in it. I would think that the dimensions would be the same on the Dream. :goodvibes

Oops, sorry, I completely skimmed over the ship name! I was referring to the Magic and the Wonder. Thanks for catching that :thumbsup2

Thanks for clarifying and for the picture! We are in 2048, so probably just down the hall from 2004....

I'm trying to tell from the pic, but can't quite - can I still stick the kids in it for a picture? LOL! They are 5 and 7, and fairly tiny :)

Deck 2 portholes are totally big enough to sit in. My kids were hanging out in it last week. They are in 4th and 5th grade.

This concerns me - we have deck 2, 9B booked on Fantasy (#2036), and my kids who will be 5 and 9 a time of sailing, are anticipating sitting in the porthole.

Now, based on this conflicting info, I'm not sure? Perhaps DCL is just reading from a manual? It helps to hear a real life example above though.

Hmmm...? Tiger

Unless I am reading the various posts wrong, the porthole size for Deck 2 (Dream or Fantasy) is exactly as shown in post #7 (and #3). I have to think that the response received by minnierocks is incorrect in that based on the two different pictures of Dream deck 2 portholes in this thread, you can clearly sit in the porthole.

Having seen pictures of category 8 portholes, category 9B are smaller, but deeper.

I am interested in all of this as my wife and her sisters have 9B Dream booked for next Feb and our family has 9B Fantasy booked for Dec 2012.

My 4 yr old and 11 yr old sat in the porthole in #2004 (so fun to see a picture of "our cabin" again!) without a problem. I think DCL is trying to emphasize that the deck 2 portholes don't have the padded window seat and they are slightly smaller than the other categories. So, can you sit in it? Yes, and even I fit and I'm not a small adult. It is all comfy with a nice bench thing? No.

Perhaps someone can post a picture of the portholes with the window seat in order to illustrate the difference?
