So, we're going to be moving into a new house with nice carpet :cool1:. We also have guests that come with their dogs that frequently have accidents, some we discover right away and some later after its dried. So I'm thinking my best bet would be to purchase a portable carpet cleaner. I've heard of the Bissell Spot Bot. Is it any good or are there any other brands I should consider? Can you buy special cleaner solution that works on animal smells?

Make sure to use an enzyme treatment to break down the urine. We have a carpet cleaning business. I also use a little dawn to clean as well. You have to remember you need very hot water and it also boils down to the suction from extracting from the carpet.

We have always liked the Spot Bot for cleaning dog messes and small spills. The very first one we had several years ago was the best one we ever had. Since then we have purchased 3 more because they tend to start leaking. I now take out the cleaning solution reservoir if it still has solution in it and store it separately to avoid any leaking.

Bissell makes a great Oxy Pet Stain remover - we have newer light carpets and two cats (one of which is prone to hairballs). This stuff works great! Getting everything out. I also have the Little Green Machine - it can be used on carpets and furniture and works really well.

What type of enzyme cleaner do you use?

Is there any way you can keep the dogs in non-carpeted areas while those particular guests are at your house?

I know it isn't easy...especially if they are family or good friends.

The Spot Bot is fantastic. I don't think you'll find many bad reviews on the internet from users of the "bot". The only issue is it works "too well" sometimes, if your surrounding carpet isn't clean. In other words, the spot you clean will stand out as really clean, on a stained carpet....like crop circles. If the rest of your carpet is clean, or if your carpet is light to begin with, you'll love the bot.

I want to say it does clean upholstery and people use it to clean the interior of their cars, using the extension hose.

Thanks for all the tips. I think the Spot Bot is probably the way to go! Unfortunately, in this situation I have no control over the dogs and where they go.

I have a Little Green Machine...I like it and it works well, you can buy a pet stain solution for it.

I think a better option for you would be to have your guests dogs stay outside if they have that many accidents. I wouldn't bring an accident prone dog into someone else's home and expect them to just deal with it. :sad2:

I love my Bissell Spot Bot.

We have two cats & I do think there is a special solution for sale that is specifically for pets.

Btw, NO WAY do I allow guests to bring pets into our home. I wouldn't even consider it. We have friends who live 5-6 hours away and they only come to visit if/when their dog is left at home.

Are your friends aware of the mess their pet is making?

We have 3 cats and 3 times a year we scotchguard our carpets. And it is a life saver. when one of them gets sick on the carpet even if we don't find it right away, there is never a stain left behind. We use the Wool Light oxy pet stain remover solution.
