My daughter likes to sleep with a fan, not just for the white noise but for the movement of air as well. I know fans are on the list of prohibited items. But I understand people have been bringing small (4 1/2"?) portable fans. I understand there are electric ones that use a USB port or rechargeable battery operated ones. Has anyone brought either of these small portable fans on board? Are any of these actually allowed, do you know? Does DCL prefer a USB over a rechargeable battery? I know we can have a fan inspected by an electrician, when would that happen? Wondering when, where, the time frame. Thanks in advance.

I don't think small portable electric fans are on the prohibited list. (I always bring one and have never had a problem.)

Can you tell me if your fan used the USB port? I'm wondering what the rules are. Also wondering if they don't want you to bring the rechargeable battery kind on board. What size is yours?

Right. I'm aware. That was the second part of my above question, I would like to bring what I know is permitted. I'm asking what kind of fans that folks have brought that the electrician okay'd.

Mine is probably 4-6 inches and is a regular plug-in type. I posted the official prohibited list above.

Used a USB type last year and will again this year. DW was good with it and not too noisy for the rest of us. Bought this one last year

On a side night, when did they outlaw hoverboards? That is horribly unreasonable of them! I go no where without my Pit Bull hoverboard (with the 3 person attachment) - cause we all know that hoverboards don't work over water unless you got POWER.

I used a battery powered hand held fan...tied it to a string and used a magnet hook to hang in from the ceiling.

Was this regular batteries or rechargeable ones? The rechargeable ones I'm looking at are a lithium battery and I'm wondering if those are a no go.

BTW, on all the cruises I've been on, I've never had an electrician check mine out. I take it thru in my carry-on and keep it in the cabin in plain sight, so I guess the cabin steward could have it checked if needed. And, I always unplug it when not in use.

If they ever took it away, I would have to go with the white noise app on my smartphone.

Okay, thank you, good to know!

On all my cruises in my signature, the only place we've had our fans checked was when leaving from San Diego. Mine was in my carry-on and they took it at the port and tagged it with my name and cabin and said it would be returned to me onboard after it was checked out. My Mom's was in her checked luggage and they also took hers and left a note. We ended up tracking the fans down ourselves at guest services and picking them up rather than waiting for them to be delivered to us. Honestly don't know if they were officially checked out or not, but we got them back and had them for sleeping the first night which was what we needed.
