We purchased a portable DVD player for the kids from walmart.
The volume only goes up to 25. Wearing headphones on the flight on the weekend, we discovered that with the volume to full (25), with background noise on the plane, the kids were unable to hear the movie very well.

Does anyone know if there are any portable DVD players for sale at wal-mart that the volume goes higher then 25? If so, we will exchange this one.

Thank you

Mine doesn't have numbers on the volume but I've noticed the same thing. We have to turn it up to full or almost full volume to hear it in the car and the noise in the car is not as bad as on a plane. I have noticed that when using earphones we need to turn the volume higher than if we just have it playing through the speaker.

Maybe the earbud type of headphone would work better. They plug the ear so I'm thinking that might block out some of the surrounding noise on the plane.

Funny enough, I have the same problem even with my laptop. I took it on the plane and couldn't hear a thing.

I've never had this problem with our Panasonic portable player.

However, depending on your circumstances, one solution might be to get noise cancelling headphones. They are not cheap but they often come with adapters that allow you to use them as headsets for the airplane audio. I've found that noise cancelling headphones help a great deal with making it easier to hear the audio track for the inflight movies. If you travel by air frequently, it might be worthwhile considering this option.

You have to buy the special kind of headset that is noise cancelling. I couldn't hear my dvd player either over the plane noise.

Thanks everyone for all the great info.

Does anyone know where I can buy these at a reasonable cost? I will have to buy two sets since we have one portable DVD player, one splitter and two sets of headphones for the kids.

Thank you
