We may be in the market for a portable DVD player, which we know nothing about. I figured I'd ask here for some advice. We're not looking for top of the line, just something we'd use once in awhile, like for our flight to FL and occasionally at home.

Thanks!

We have a Mintek portable DVD player. I think it is either an 8 inch or 10 inch screen. I can't remember right now.

It has served its purpose well. We have had it for almost 3 years. It goes with us most everywhere. We have taken it on the plane with us on vacation. And we take it with us in the car on road trips.

We've never had a problem with it at all. Battery life usually lasts through 1 maybe 2 movies.

It was less than $200.

I'm looking for information on this also. I really would like a dual screen system, but the ones I have seen do not have a battery option. I can't decide if this is a big deal or not. It will mostly be used for car travel, but would like to be able to take it into our camper in case the kids would like to watch a movie. We have AC plug ins there, so I could get by with some of them, but can't decide if there would be other times in which I wish I would have a battery.

We have this portable DVD player:

Toshiba DVD palyer

Best $169 I ever spent! :) We had a couple of cheaper versions we bought previously, one broke within a few months of using it, and another we got and we could never hear it, the sound didn't work properly. When we returned it to the store the clerk told us they had dozens in the back that were returned for the same reason, apparently this is a problem with cheap portable DVD players, getting it loud enough to hear.

We took a chance on this Toshiba and its been such a bargain so far. We bought it for a road trip we took 3 months ago and the picture was perfect - so crisp and clear, and the sound is perfect as well, in fact we had to turn it DOWN quite a few times when our kids would turn it up too loud. It also comes with dual headphone jacks, a plus if you have more than one kid. I'd highly recommend this DVD player!

I'll call my mom tonight about which she bought for my little brother. I took it when I went to Cali for spring break and it was great. I think its an 11 inch screen, not sure. I would have taken my laptop, but it was being worked on, though. I love the 17 inch high def screen!

We have 2, we use them with our tv's. We have a Magnavox and another that I can't remember the brand. We take this one with us for long trips as it has 2 screens. The screens can be used to show the same thing or you can hook an XBox or similar to it and play games. It works great with our kids on our trips to St. Louis (10 hours each way). It has a battery but we have never used that. I got it at Walmart.

Portable DvD players are becoming disposable. The price on units have dropped over the past year or so, to the point every manufacturer has a model for under $150. 2 years ago you couldn't touch them for under $300. I would say get the one that you like, according to the price you want to spend. Get the biggest screen in that price category, and get it from a good retailer. I wouldn't put to much thought into any certain brand.
