I was wondering if anyone knew if anyone made battery operated air conditioners. We are planning to travel at night and dont want to stay in a campground(we dont have a generator) just to plug in the air conditioner. We just need something to cool off the camper for 5-6 hrs overnight. Just wondering if they make anything like that.

Highly unlikely. AC units pull a LOT of power. If you have a portable generator to operate your TT, it has to be at least 3000 watts to operate the trailer AC unit. On battery, a TT will only operate the lights, fans, some refrigerators and the furnace. AC units and microwaves are on a separate circuit and won't operate on the battery - too much power requirement.

I think that your options will be pretty low. There are some that work off of ice but, i've seen some places that say they don't perform to where you would be happy.I found this www.dcbreeze.com but I can't say anything about its performance. You could always get a large power inverter to plug in an AC A/C :rotfl2: ( Regular window unit ) . I would think that whatever you decide on would have a big draw on your batteries, not to mention the cost of purchase. Before you buy something like that, I would compare to the price of buying a generator that would allow you to run just the basics.

I just looked at harbor freight and they have a 3500watt peak and 3000watt rated generator and it is $399.00. There may be better deals but, this gives you a ball park number to bring your own power.

HOWDY!!!

Check out Days Inn. We've seen a lot of them (mostly in the south) that have spaces just for RV's to plug into. There are no water or sewer hook-ups... just electric. I honestly don't know if this is 30amp or 50amp. You might want to try their web-site or call their 800 ressie #. Other than that, you're going to need a generator to run your A/C.

Honestly, I am paying the 30 bucks to pull into a KOA right off the interstate, plug in the the power cord and go to bed. I'm not even unhitching. It's well worth it. It would take a LOT of $30 camping charges to cover the cost of a generator.

I came across a tent air conditioner that plugs into your car's cigarette lighter when I was shopping for my tent. The company is called Tents on Trucks (www.tentsontrucks.com). Click on the link that says "Tent Cooling" along the left side of the screen.
