Port Upgrades

Does anyone know the formula that is used to calculate port upgrades? Specifically, I'm wondering about an upgrade from 11A to either 8B, 8A, or to a verandah. Right now, the cost to upgrade from an 11A to a 5B is about $600. What would we be looking at if we waited til we get to port? (Approximately, of course. I know there is a "sheet" that they have at port that tells what the fees are).

The "formula" varies from cruise to cruise. The only constant is an upgrade that you would pay $XX for the day before the cruise will cost less upgrading at the port.

Oh, I didn't realize that. I thought it was a set amount. Is it a set amount per itinerary? For example, we're on a 7 day Eastern A on the Fantasy.

I think it varies dependent on how many rooms are available for upgrading to. I may be wrong.

Here is an example of what PrincessShmoo was talking about - I know these are different categories but you get the idea.

In Sept 2013 we were in a 4A(which is the highest verandah you can go, besides concierge) and to upgrade to a 1-bedroom suite the day before was $3600 extra. We waited until we got to the port the next morning and upgraded for $742. I can't say every savings will be this good, but this is our experience.

So if we want to try for an upgrade at port, is there a certain line we need to go to or ?? (Specifically in our case, I'm talking about Alaska. And yes, I know the likelihood of something being open is low).

And sometimes there will be a sign up right at the port that says whether upgrades are even available for that cruise
