We want to use Budget to rent a car for the day from Port to Airport. Can we make a 11:50 flight doing this? Is it quick and easy to get from Port to Budget?

Thanks!

Keep these figures in mind as we just got off yesterday. The ship cleared at 7:45 (meaning you can get off from that time). Figure another 15 minutes to clear customs (8:00)

The Budget shuttle was just across the street waiting on folks and the drive to pick up the car was about 5 minutes. (8:10 w/walk)

Figure another 20 to actually be in the car and it's a 45 min. drive to Orlando International. (9:15).

You still have to drop off the car and walk across the street to the terminal. Figure another 15 minutes for that process and you're at 9:30.

So you *should* be able to make it!

Keep in mind that there could be a line of people waiting for the shuttle, so you might have to wait for a shuttle or two (they use vans). But in the couple of times that we've used Budget, their line has been the shortest. We didn't have to wait either time.

Another option would be to hire a car to drive you from the port to the airport. It's obviously more expensive than a rental car (approx. $80-100), but I would expect it to be quite a bit faster (less waiting/walking/standing around, etc.). It would also be a more relaxing way to end your vacation. ;)

Another way to do it and still use Budget is to call for a taxi as soon as you get off the ship. Have some taxi numbers already in your phone from the Port area.

This was my plan last month because the Budget shuttle line was very, very long....we wound up waiting 25 minutes for a taxi to come (still shorter than waiting for the shuttle). The CM in the parking lot said taxi automatically come, but they are few and far between unless you specifically call for one. I just wish I had programed taxi numbers into my phone first, instead of just waiting for one to show up.

One other time there was a taxi waiting right there and we took it to Budget for $7.00.

jiffymom, for us (family of 5) the Disney transportation was our most expensive option. We are renting a day car for portions of our trip, including the trip from the cruise back to the airport. Our flight doesn't leave until 6:50 p.m., so we will have the entire day when we get off the ship. Renting a car gives us the option to do whatever we want for those hours.

I too am renting a car. The bus is definitely more expensive when its a family traveling.
