We will be staying at Port Orleans hotel in a few weeks. I have requested building 18. ( From the boards, it sounded like a good choice)
I understand it is a smoking building and we don't smoke. I was wondering if you can smell smoke from the rooms? If that's the case we may change our request.
thanks

Hi, Susan-

We were there the last week of September last year right before they closed the resort. When we first checked in, they gave us a room close to the pool that was a smoking room. We thought that would be okay because the location was so nice--and how bad could it possibly be, right? Well, it was AWFUL! It smelled like a bar! I really don't think we were being ultra-sensitive, because we were expecting a little bit of a smell. This odor, though, knocked us over when we opened the door. We immediately asked for another building.

Now, I can't say what has been done during PO's down time. Nor can you be sure that one room will be like the next--could've had 4-packs-a-dayers in there the week before we arrived. All I know is that the odor in the room we were offered was definitely NOT worth the nicer location.

Is it possible to find another building that sounds nice to you yet is non-smoking? Maybe check out the resort map at Deb's site. If so, based on my experience, I would switch to that. (why take the risk, right?)

Good luck! :-) I hope you have fun on your trip!

F.Y.I... Last August we stayed on property at Port Orleans Riverside, 2 rooms. My mother went along on this trip and she is a smoker. I wasn't overjoyed about staying in smoking rooms but keep Mom happy, right. We checked in, they started to process evereything and I asked them about smoking rooms. They said we would be in a non-smoking wing but not to worry, just ask housekeeping for an ash tray. (Which they provided.) They didn't seem to have a problem at all. I was very surprised. This year, Mom's staying home and we don't want smoking, as none of us do.

Thanks for the info on the smoking rooms. I think that I might change my request for building 18. I don't want to take the chance of smoke smell, when so many in my party don't care for it.
I will take a look at Deb's map. I think 14 or 15 might be a good choice.
Susan

Bldg 14 is reserved primarily for special needs guests, those with disabilities. I understand it is hard to get into if the resort is busy. We stayed in Bldg. 15 and it was in a good location. Be aware that one side of the bldg. does face the parking lot and it is pretty close. The other side, though, faces a nice courtyard area. Hope that helps.
