Not sure if perhaps this belongs in a different forum, but...

We're heading to Disney in November and (after three trips at the Art of Animation) will be staying at Port Orleans Riverside, and the Royal Guest rooms.

There are for different variations, though - Standard, Garden View, River View, and Pool View. We don't want to be looking at the parking lot, but beyond that, my goal is to make the trip to the bus stop and the main swimming pool (Ol' Man Island).

Any suggestions as to what type of room I should request?

We will be staying at a Royal Room also and to be honest, I don't care about the view too much because of the window locations. The windows are facing the outside walkway/hallway which means that if I leave the shades open that anyone walking by to their room will be able to look in on me and my family. That just gives me an uncomfortable feeling.

It really makes no major difference in regards to what you want.
The buildings with those rooms are next to each other
One end of the building is close to a bus stop, the other close to the river (and as such, the main pool)
The buildings aren't so large that it significantly alters your walking time no matter which end you get.
A pool view would mean you are in the room with the pool which means you are in the building closest to the bus stop

River view rooms are my favorite at PO resorts. We always leave our blinds open, if we aren't dressing or sleeping. Folks just don't look in the rooms when walking by so it's not something that bothers us

Request the Oak Manor building to be closer to the bridge to the feature pool. This would only be a request, so would not be guaranteed. The East bus stop is behind the parking lot . So technically, a standard view room can be a bit closer to the bus than River View, but really not a big issue. Like the previous poster said, the views at POR are less important than at a deluxe resort with a private balcony, because you will likely want to keep your drapes closed because people will be walking right past your windows as they access their rooms. I always book standard view at POR- my favorite DW Resort. Have fun!

Pool View has most potential for room closest to the Main hub bridge.
River View could be next unless you are sent to a far wing.
Garden View would be next up.
Standard View would be your farthest and likely to see parking lot, although a few do not. Quite a few will be feet from cars with headlines coming direct into your room.

The categories that you mention are bookable categories, so you need to book the category that you want. If you want to be close to the walkway and/or in Oak Manor then you would be best off booking pool view. There is only one pool view room in Parterre Place. River view is very pretty, but has many rooms in Parterre Place.

If you do not want to risk facing a parking lot, do not book standard view. Although some do not face the parking lot, many do so the risk is high.

Parterre Place is the closest building to POFQ, if that matters to you. You are free to use the pool and amenities at POFQ when staying at POR (and vice versa).

If you want to be near the feature pool and don't want to face the parking lot you could book river view and request Oak manor as near as possible to Ole Man Island.

Another option is to book river view that is not in the RR category and request near Old Man Island in the Magnolia Terrace building in Magnolia Bend. This is also very near the bus stop and food court.

You can see this easily looking a the great maps HopperFan posted!!

POR is a great moderate! Enjoy!

Most of the Disney resorts which have outside doors are going to be this way. I think of CBR as rooms, especially on the 2nd floor, are going to have people walking by. Not much you can do with this situation other than strategically asking for a room location with the least amount of traffic.

Are we the only ones that just don't find folks looking in the rooms to be a problem? This has not been an issue in our stays at CBR, POR or POFQ. Folks have walked by but never stopped or even turned to look in our room. We've never stayed Value long enough to experience how it is there. Maybe it's a bigger problem with bigger resorts?

We have stayed at CBR (2x) and POR and never had an issue and I usually request a corner room, so we have extra windows. I like daylight too, so unless we are getting dressed, I have the shades/curtains wide open until we leave the room. Never had any issues or "creepers"

This doesn't bother us, either. Personally, I'll look at someone's window if it's decorated or if there are stuffed or towel animals near the window, but other than that I would rather check out the pretty scenery around me. I have noticed, if it's daylight, there's not much you can see in the rooms anyway. Now at night we will close our curtains, but during the day I don't worry too much about it.

If you don't want to face the parking lot at all, request a river view or pool view. Some garden views may get a bit of the parking lot. I typically get a river view but had to take a pool view for our trip last month. Even the standard view was really not far at all. Have a great time! It is a beautiful resort. We love it there.

We stay at a value (usually Pop) and we don't worry about it unless we are changing our clothes or sleeping. When we are in the room, we keep the sheers closed and the drapes open so that we get the extra light. I've never had any worries about someone looking in. I figure that they are doing the same thing when I'm walking by rooms -- I'm walking along the hallway and trying to get to my destination, I'm not playing peeping Tom. When we are sleeping, changing or leave the room, we close the drapes. It's just not something I've ever worried about.

We are staying in the Royal Rooms in May/June for the first time (have always done Value resorts). We have a garden view room. How far will we be from the bus stop, pool, or food court?

Look up thread at the map. The red buildings are the Royal rooms. The bus stops, the food court and the pool are all marked on the map also

Not a problem for us either . Even if they did look in all they would see is an empty room or us watching TV and/or reading on our tablets. Even in a 1st floor room we have never noticed a lot of traffic.

Having stayed in the royal rooms a few times, I always book garden view and request Oak Manor Bldg 90. My room view was upgraded in 2015 to pool view so I was even closer to the foot bridge, right next to the quiet pool. It was room 9278, a 2nd floor, corner room - perfect! I love the location of this building. It is about a 2-3 minute walk to the main building and South Depot bus stop. The area is nice, quiet and relaxing.

nevermind, just saw above room chart w/the answer lol
