Port Orleans Riverside

We are going to be at POR in May and we requested AB near the pool. They said that our request wasnt guaranteed. What are the chances they will honor my request? Has anyone been denied? I've read posts where people say "I'll be at POR AB in 'whatever month'" but that doesnt seem to be the case cause ya really dont know where you'll be. Do ya? Geez I hope you all get what Im saying cause it even sounds funny to my own ears. LOL

I think most members will understand what you mean. We requested Magnolia Bend when we made our January ressies and we got it (Acadian House). Requests are not guaranteed, though. I guess you have a better shot getting it if you go during an off-season. Or, if you request the AB and have 5 people needing the same room you might get it because of the trundle bed. I'm not sure how some members here on the DIS seem to think they are quaranteed a certain section, or even a certain building, at a resort. Either they have some kind of inside help or they just don't understand the system yet. Hopefully, everyone will get what they want! :cool1:

and stayed in Bldg. 15. We love the location and have no complaints, but the room had not been renovated yet (no privacy curtain by sinks and we had to request a fridg). From what I read on another post, Bldgs. 14 - 18 will be the last to get refurbished. ~:)~

You are right, the section is not guaranteed, I was hoping for the Mansions and had put that request on our reservation, but we were given AB Building 24 which HAS been renovated. Its a LONG way from the food court though.

If you are looking at photos of AB, the renovated rooms have blue bedding and curtains, while the older rooms have brown/tan bedding. the link to the Disney website someone posted is showing the unrenovated rooms.

Hi Sadie!

I don't have too many pictures of the room- but, feel free to look at our homepage: http://members2.clubphoto.com/tracey108203 . The ones with the room in it are albums B and C. We had room 1613 in AB. It was close to the bus stop and fairly close to the food court. I thought it was a good location. I tried for building 14 and I tried for a corner room. No such luck. But, it was still a good room.

Loved your photos
Did you do up a trip report would love to read it if you did

I've always been lucky and received my request for building 14. We are leaving in 3 weeks-- :cheer2: :cheer2: YEAH! :cheer2: :cheer2: --and I am worried the rooms won't be renovated yet.

What AB building would you recommend if we don't do building 14/15?

Jackie- I intended to do a trip report- REALLY, I did! - Alas, it never happened. We have a GREAT family journal all filled out, but, I never put anything online.

To give you the short version - it was THE BEST family vacation we have ever had. It was everything I told my family it would be and more. Even losing a day from the hurricane didn't matter! Every CM we came in contact with was wonderful, went out of their way to make our time there special. We got to be grand marshals in the parade in the MK, my son got pulled up to be sung to in Epcot, a CM gave my kids pins because she ran out of the stickers she wanted to give them....... I could go on for hours- but, it was just plain wonderful!!!

Thanks everybody for all the replies! Come on somebody has to have some pictures of the renovated rooms. ;) I hope I did the right thing by changing from POP to POR. My husband has told me I need to relax and not stress so much over this. :earseek:

Tim

I tried the link and it wouldn't work. :badpc: Could you try again? :) Thanks

BettyCv -

Well, I guess that slide is a bit more open- but the kids still have to climb up it and they wouldn't see you in the water at that point. If you have the time, I guess it would be worth it to try it out.

We didn't do the dining plan. We ate breakfast in the room - I bought bagels, butter and milk before we got there and had brought some little boxes of cereal with me. We bought a snack in the park during the day, had fanny packs with snacks like granola bars, trail mix, etc. and had a big dinner between 4-6pm depending on the day. Dinner always ended up being between $85-95 for the 5 of us. It worked out well for us.

You have triplets? How blessed you are! :wizard:

This is interesting for a meal plan. I have been trying to fit in more sit down dinners and with a family of five, it's expensive. Especially when 2 of your kids are considered adults and cost so much at pre-plated meals. I had already planned most breakfasts in the room. I like the idea about just a snack for lunch and then sit down meal What kind of snacks did you buy? I'm guessing pretzels and such? What were some of your fav. sit downs?

Thanks for the info...

We did have pretzels, sometimes ice cream :mickeybar, some fries- not the best diet in the world- but, hey, we were walking 9 miles a day. Plus, they had the trail mix, granola bars, etc. in their fanny packs.

For sit down meals- hands down- Chef Mickey's wins in our opinion. There was something for everyone. The kids buffet was lower, so they could get their own stuff, the desert was great...... The Whisperin Canyon Cafe was good, too. As was Crystal Palace. We also ate at the Teppanyaki Grill (sp?) in Epcot and weren't that impressed. The Japanese restaurant around the corner from our house is better. However, I know a lot of people LOVE it there - so maybe we just had a bad day there. We also ate at the Prime Time Cafe place - while our waiter was "okay", the food wasn't that great. I wouldn't do it again. But, I know a lot of people LOVE that place too. Another place we REALLY liked was O'Hana's. We had a PS for a time when the fireworks were going off and got a window table. So, it was fantastic. There's a ton of food, activities for the kids. Would definitely go back. We did lunch at the Liberty Tree Tavern - mostly because I always at there as a a kid. It was nice for the memories. But, we wouldn't back.

I tried to book the last lunch time available some days - because you get the same stuff, but it's cheaper.

I hope some of that helps! :earsgirl:

Hi MiJo,
What time in the morning did you get up to take such lovely and quiet photos?
We have stayed there and will be back at the Riverside in June and after looking at your photos, I just can't wait. :goodvibes

Thanks so much. We did O'hana's last trip too and loved it. It will cost us approx. $120 to do it again. We may just do Kona instead. You have definently given me alot to think about. I will use it wisely.

Thanks Again,

Michele
