My family is considering flying in to Orlando in mid-May for a six-night stay at POR. The plane's ETA is 9 AM. Is it unrealistic to book a lunch reservation for the Tusker House that same day at 2 PM? I guess my real question is, how frequently is shuttle available from POR to Animal Kingdom?

Busses try to run approx 20 minute intervals. It could be less but not usually more.

You should be at your hotel and checked in by 11:30. You can definitely do lunch by 2:00. Have fun; I'm a little, no a lot jealous. ;)

If AK closes at 5 PM, do you recommend we check out the resort for the balance of our first evening, or is there another great first-evening activity somewhere else in Disney? (Obviously we're new to this!)

Are you thinking of checking out the Animal Kingdom Lodge Resort after AK closes? That would be a cool idea. The lobby is intersting. Even the gift shop is interesting. And you can see some animals in the savannah off the lobby. After dark, CM help you spot the animals with special night vision goggles. And do spend some time talking tothe CM about their home country.

You made a good choice with Tusker House. It is my favorite in-park restaurant!

You will have to schedule another day for AK. With you late arrival, time out for sit down meal and the 5:00 closing, you won't have time. There is so much to see and do in the Animal Kingdom park!

I'm sure it is possible but you will be using a day on your pass to enter the park and not experience a full day. If you like Tusker House you will love Boma. It is a restaurant in the Animal Kingdom Lodge. My recommendation would be to cancel the Tusker House meal or reschedule it for your AK day so that you are getting a full day for your ticket. I would then schedule a Boma dinner the evening of your arrival and get to the AKL early to check it out. There is a savanna in the back to see some animals and the lobby of the resort has plenty to kill some time. There is usually a presentation or two every evening on some aspect of African culture or history.

Of course if your heart is set on Tusker House and some time in the AK on arrival day don't let me talk you out of it. I always use arrival day to go to the resorts because I like to maximize my time in the parks. Others don't and that is fine.

This is excellent advice.

Frank, you are on fire with advice at the moment :thumbsup2

You did not mention if you had length of stay passes, if so, go to Animal Kingdom and enjoy Tusker House. Also, if you have length of stay park hopping, go find a park open later.

Otherwise - the AKL and Boma suggestion would be solid advice...

As you are staying at POR, check out YeeHaa Bob in the lounge one night if you are around.
He is there 4 nights a week usually, Wed-Sat and puts on quite a show.
Just ask any of the 40-50 DISers that were there on Dec 10th. :dance3:
