We will be staying at the riverside and I would like some help on picking a room. Are the mansions a better place to stay?
Tell me what you know, I'm a rookie on this hotel. :thumbsup2

The rooms themselves are the exact same size in both the mansion and AB section. We like the AB section because the rooms are a bit more spread-out making them quieter. In the mansion area, all the rooms are stacked up so you increase the chances of getting a lot of foot traffic outside your door, or having noisy neighbors above you.

In AB, we like buildings 13 - 16 for their convenience to the food-court, Boatwrights and the shop.

We have stayed in both AB and Mansions and prefer AB...the Mansions seemed disconnected to the resort...and I agree with the above poster...AG buildings 13 - 16 with 14 being my favorite... :thumbsup2

We stayed in the mansion rooms (Magnolia Bend Section) this past Feb. in the Acadian Bldg. with a beautiful view of a courtyard with a pretty fountain. It was very nice. In 1999, when the resort was still called Dixie Landings we stayed in the AB section. I can honestly say that we did enjoy both, but if I had to pick I would say I liked the mansion room better. I liked the elegant decor of the room and just thought it was much prettier. The AB rooms are nice as well, but the theming is more of a rustic feel. I forget what section we were in at AB, but is was a very far walk to the main area.

I like the Bayou section better. Our last trip we were assigned a room in the mansion section but went back to the check in line once we saw our room. We requested a non-smoking room but it smelt like smoke and our room over looked the parking lot.

We got a room in the Bayou section and my mom, her first time at POR, said the Bayou section was nicer. More green and peacful. My personal opinion is the mansion room was ordinary looking. If they had canopy beds or faux looking canopy beds it would have been nicer, but everyone has their own tastes.

This was our second visit to POR. Actually the first time it was call Dixie Landings and the rooms were different. I didn't care for the room decor back then, but I like the decor now.

We stayed at POR just last week and it was our 3rd stay here. Unfortunately due to arriving quite late, we were assigned building 36 in AB. We were not very happy with the location...we're used to being much closer to the food court. It definitely made us realize how large this resort is! I would definitely try and stay as close to the main building as possible!

How Late did you arrive?

Another vote for AB. It is so pretty there and very quiet. We stayed in building 18 on the second floor.

Thank you very much for all the good info.
I am going to call and see when we can reserve a specific room. Might even consider a room with a view. :teeth:
We have two children and grandparents who will be with us and the walking thing sounds a bit tough based on everyones comments.
thanks again

In June we stayed in bldg 18 (rm 1802) in AB. We had a "standard view" room, which was still not bad, as we got lucky and had a view of greenery instead of the parking lot. We were a short walk to the food court and pool. And around the corner of the building, cut through the parking lot, down a short sidewalk was the first bus stop.....

I had requested bldg 14 or 18. We arrived after midnight and received 1802. I was sure we would get a noisy or smoking room, but it was great!! I couldn't have been happier. Have a great trip!

Hi!

I am probably going to sound like the odd ball on here, but we just stayed in AB 39 and loved the location. It was less that 5 minutes to the bus and food court. We were on the second floor and had a great view of the quiet pool...beautiful resort!

Another vote for AB, 14 is our pick! First bus stop at POR, close to General Store, Food Court/Main Building. My other thread is about our POR stay just this week if you're interested.
Have A MAGICAL time.

I think Building 39 is what I'm going to request... so its not just you :)

Hi,
Just so you are aware you do not get to "pick a room". When you made your reservation you could have "requested" a section, Bayou vs Mansions but even that is only a request. If you did not make that "request" when you booked the room you can all and ask to have your "request" added.

We stayed at POR this past November in the AB section and it was great. We found the landscaping to be very beautiful and the walk to the main area was very relaxing.

My point of this is not to get worked up about being assigned the perfect room. Yes, some are closer to the main area then others and some are closer to the bus stop then others but each room as its own pluses and minuses.

So do you like the themeing of Huck Finn or Gone with the Wind? Pick and then call and make your request but even if you do not get it when you check in do not make it start your vacation off on the wrong foot.

We will be at POR in a couple of weeks and then again in Dec and we did not make any requests other than a medical one for a non-smoking room due to my husbands medical issues. Go and enjoy.

We just returned two days ago from POR and I was initially disappointed to be in Bldg. 38. I was so wrong! We overlooked a beautiful courtyard and even with two small children, it only took 4 minutes to walk to the pool or restaurant. We were near to the north bus stop, which seemed much less busy than the main stop. It was quiet and we really didn't hear anyone else all week! We would request Bldg 38 again!

We stayed at POR last December. I haven't tried the AB section yet, but we did stay in the mansions at the Magnolia Terrace building. We enjoyed it and it was a short walk over the bridge to Old Man Island and then to the main building. There was a bus stop behind our building which was VERY convenient as well. It was a beautiful resort!

POR room Request. Does anyone have a suggestion to be close to the large pool area? I was asking for Magnolia Terrace but I think my husband would prefer AB. Would love any suggestions! Thanks. :genie:

Just returned and we were in Building 38, also. Loved the location and we actually enjoyed our short stroll to the food court and/or bus.

And for what its worth, we had absolutely NO issues with busses at any time. We used the North Depot and never had to stand or wait more than 10 minutes for a bus.

We are staying there this November, and requested the AB section, building 18 !!
Thanks for your input ! :cheer2: pirate: :wizard:

We are staying here starting 9/30. We have twin DDs - 1 year old, me and DH, and both sets of grandparents. My biggest concern is loading my double stroller on the bus, and having two sleepy babies coming back. What is the best location for us? I think I would rather be closer to a bus stop so I won't be hitting people with loading the stroller, and be able to get off the bus quickly at night. Any suggestions?
