Hi guys, It's my first trip to WDW and I'm overwhelmed with info!

I've made a reservation for my DD and I at Akershus for 8:20am
What is the best/quickest way to get there? How much time should we give ourselves to get there?

Thanks!

By bus give yourself about an hour.
By taxi figure about 10 min and $10 plus tip

Forgive me, but the only way it would take 1 hour to get from POR to Epcot by bus would be if the bus broke down ... twice.

At most, it would be say a 20 minute wait for the bus and then a 15 minute ride if there's bad traffic. But you could also have a 1 minute wait and a 10 minute ride.

Isn't there more than one bus stop at POR, we don't know if the OP is getting on at the first or last stop.
Since when do the buses drop you off right at the restaurants in EPCOT, is that a new service.
After getting to EPCOT it's probably another 15 minutes min to go thru security, the turnstiles and the walk with children to Akershus.

I recommended the OP give themselves an hour and I still think that's a pretty good estimate
I would rather be there 5-10 minutes early than 15 minutes late.

Thank you all for the replies! It will only be our second day there so I'm not sure if I'll be used to bus stops and bus routes yet. And looking at the map of Epcot really doesn't help me in knowing how far it is from the gate to the restaurant.

It's approx 3/4 mile from bus stop to restaurant.

Glad to help, enjoy your breakfast.

True, but in that case it's misleading to say that a cab will only take 10 minutes. In reality it would be more like 30 minutes if you're talking resort to restaurant.

Thank you for making that point.

One can't say that the bus takes an hour including walking time, but then ignore that same amount of walking time when considering a taxi. To paraphrase an earlier comment, since when do taxis drop you off right at the restaurants in EPCOT, is that a new service?

If I was at POR, and I had an 8:20 ADR at Akershus...I would be out at the Epcot stop no later than 7:30. If you just miss the bus, then the next may not be there until 7:45ish. It takes about 15 mins to get to Epcot from POR. Then, it's going to be about 15-20 mins to walk to Akershus from the bus stop.
Even if you took a cab, I would get the cab by 7:50ish..due to that longish walk. Or, you could take a cab to BC, then walk in via the International Gateway.

You're 100% correct, I forgot to allow for the walk in the taxi example, Thanks for correcting that. 25-30 is more accurate.

If you're going to cab it, that's a winner.

I'm sitting at the computer avoiding getting some work done at the moment, so of course I was up for a project. :rotfl:

Using my favorite runners' website (www.usatf.org), I tracked the exact distance from a taxi drop-off at Beach Club to Norway, AND from a taxi drop-off at Epcot to Norway.

From BC it was 0.88 miles, from the front entrance it was 0.54 miles.

I was surprised, too.

If anyone wants to check my work, go to that website, click on the USA icon for "America's Running Routes," then click on the link to "create a route," and then use the map to zoom in on Florida, and so on. It's a pretty neat tool.

What did you use as the drop off location at Epcot? They drop off at a parking lot where the buses are. My guess is that the BC to Norway is just a little closer than from the bus lot to Norway.

Hi Magicbus,
I'll see you in few weeks!

It is a little shorter from the bus stop/taxi stand to Norway than it is from BC to Norway, believe it or not.

You've got me wondering now. Well I guess it's time to get out the old Pedometer and bring it with me. The battery, does it even have a battery, is probably dead from non-use though.

This is an example of why we rent a car, even while staying onsite
I realize I'm going off-topic here, but one of the things I cherish about WDW vacations is that I don't have to drive for an entire week. I LOVE not having a car key in my pocket, not even THINKING about driving for that week!

Right now, I'm in the middle of a quick 4-night trip, taking my kids to Washington, DC. Traffic and parking in DC are both difficult, to say the least, and there is an excellent public transportation system. I parked the car in the hotel's underground lot upon arrival yesterday, and I don't intend to see the car again until we leave on Sunday. And I LOVE it.

And that's why I love the Disney Transport system!
