I would request to be in the "mansion" section. These rooms are within walking distance of the gift shop and food court. You can also catch the bus at the main building which IMO is a plus.
We were in building 18 which is just one building away from the main building and very close to the main bus stop. It also looks over the river on one side and the quiet pool on the other. The laundry room is in a building adjacent to the quiet pool.
Either Alligator Bayou 14 or 18, both really, REALLY close to bus stops, food court, lobby, pools...everything. Or Oak Manor Building (part of Mansions) which is linked from a small bridge and is just as close to everything. Even if you dont get what you requested, the walk is always so pretty and nice
We stayed in Acadian House in the mansions; it was quiet and next to a quiet pool and north? bus depot, but a little walk back to main building and restaurants. Unless you have mobility issues this shouldn't be a problem. My kids were 4 and 6 and they never complained about walking. Hope this helps.
Alligator Bayou section definitely, but DO NOT pay for a water view! The rooms they consider water views are VERY skeptical. If there is spit on the floor outside your room, its a water view at Port Orleans.
