Just got back from our trip.. what a blast.

we showed up at 5:30am and with the help of my FAX requests and some for that pixie dust we had two rooms next to each other ready for us. We were upgraded from GV to those cool Magnolia Bend rooms. We have all boys and were in the princess's rooms but it really didn't matter, they were cool. The kids loved the fireworks on the back of the beds etc.. I might have to say I like the mansions better than the bayou.. maybe. ;)

Mansions are my fav section! Congrats on upgrade!

My sister and i have stayed at riverside several time and it is definitely our favorite resort. We are planing our next trip for Sept. of 2015, and are thinking of staying in the Alligator Bayou this time. What would be the best building to request, with out paying for a preferred room. Thanks for your help.

Have a look on page one. There is a resort map that will be very helpful in choosing locations.

Good advice. Buildings 16 and 17 are pretty good locations without paying the extra for Preferred Location.

We stayed in building 16 earlier this year and it's an ideal location. It's close to the bus stop, pool, main building and restaurants etc.
I have to wait until 2016 before I return but we are definitely requesting building 16 again.

:thumbsup2 another spectacular pic!! Do you use a special filter or something, the colours are amazing, and really looks like paintings.
Glad to hear your son is doing well.

Three shot exposure and used photomatix pro to combine the photos. I try to make it pleasing to the eye without going too much overboard where it looks to overcooked. This one is another bracketed three shot exposure with minimal effects.

I have to say that I do prefer the mansions side vs. the Allgator Bayou side. Our first stay oh so many years ago was in the mansions but since we've had kids we were always forced to the bayou. I like the elegance and views of the river on that side. We really enjoyed our time in the Acadian House.

Sue, what is it about the Mansions you like? Still trying to decide if I should fax in a room request or "wing it."

For me its the River views, elegance of the Mansions, and walking areas (especially near the gazebo).

I like the river paths, way easier to find my way around thrn the convoluted AB paths. All mansions are along the river. Also, IMO more centrally located to main ammenities, unless you're in a preferred AB location. I always request a location close to Old Man Island foot bridge. Love the landscaping, and like Mike, the elegance. I also prefer the room decor. Not a fan of the rustic twig furniture.

KC Mike my fav location! Last January we had a room on second floor facing River. But the back of the building is just as pretty. We always passed the fountain going & coming from North Depot. I think I got a few pics of my daughter standing by the fountain!
We've also had a pool view room there too. Both were great locations right off Old Man Island bridge.
A little over a month from now we'll be there!

Hey Andre, just wondering if that elusive Christmas recreation schedule has come out yet. Would love to see what the resort has planned for the holidays. I can't believe Christmas is only 10 days out! :woohoo:

But the back of the building is just as pretty.

Incidentally, I never know which side to call the 'back' of the buildings :) In general use, I tend to see the river-facing side as the 'front' for practical purposes, as most guests come and go that way - but in terms of the logic of the design and theming, I think the parking lot side should really be regarding as the front of the mansion, and the river gardens would be to the rear of the property.

They usually let me have them a few days before Xmas Eve, but I'll ask in case they can release them now.

I've been doing some more tweaking of the underlying code on portorleans.org, especially in the News Page to allow better pagination rather than everything flowing via one long page (which was sometimes taking a while to load). As always, any comments or suggestions (especially anything platform-specific) would be appreciated.

Also, did I mention that I've updated the 360-degree panorama shots for each of the major room types to show the new bed covers (POR-AB, POR-mansions, POR-Royal Rooms and POFQ) and also the French Quarter lobby? See http://www.portorleans.org/panoramas-rooms.php for the room photos, and link from there to see the others.

I think my next task will be to do something with the 1,000+ Port Orleans photos that I've got on my hard drive which need classifying, adjusting and uploading.

The Christmas / New Year 2014 Recreation Activities and Movies Schedule for Port Orleans Riverside is now available. See my main Recreation Activities Schedules page for a full-size printable PDF version.

The evening campfires commence at 5pm over the holiday period this year and the Movies Under the Stars will be screened at 7pm. These will both take place four days a week, with the other three days featuring indoor activities at 5pm instead.

There are lots of other free festive activities for all the family planned too, including live performers, character greetings (with Santa himself making an appearance at Riverside) on Christmas Eve, cookie decorating, a cast member gingerbread house competition, and a New Year's Eve Party at Riverside.
