If we book a room with 3 adults and 2 children will we be guaranteed a room with the little Murphy bed? Also are there any buildings in that section that has an elevator? Our son has autism and we always stay on top floor because he has to ride an elevator but this trip my mom is going so we will be over max occupancy for mansion so trying to figure out what I can do. Is any of the alligator section connected to a mansion so we could ride the elevator to the correct floor and just walk a little further to the room. Does that make sense? I know some will not understand it being issue but trust me it would be huge and we really can't afford a deluxe stay right now. Thanks for any help!

If you are 3 adults with two kids at least 3 and older, you will be put in an Alligator Bayou room, the section with the murphy beds. Unfortunately, those buildings do not have elevators. If one of your children happens to be under 3 (using a pack & play), you could stay in the mansions area which all have elevators. None of the alligator bayou lodges are connected to the mansions.

Thanks for your help. Our youngest is 4. We will just have to start preparing him now. We won't let it get us down! :yay:

The line isn't always shorter. But I can tell you either way if you do Online, which I suggest, and a CM that is over near regular check in becomes free they will come get you to help you over at their area. So you wont wait long regardless.

Oh and by your screen name do you live in VA?
Just curious why you recommend online check in. I've always been a bit tentative about it, although my last few trips I did use it. Does it lessen your chance of those wonderful magical upgrades?

Here now! ! We got in last night just before the peak of the thunderstorms hit. Apparently they actually shut down MCO for a bit. We have never arrived for a WDW vacation in the evening and I don't think I will plan it that way again. Just doesn't seem as magical to arrive when everyone is tired from a long day! One thing that we've never had happen. . The magical express got all the way to POFQ and then bus driver told us we had to get off and ride over to POR in a van? ? He never explained why and we actually ended up in a big golf cart with the pouring ran splashing around us! A Disney first for us! :)

Anyway, we booked preferred and are in building 15. Anxiously awaiting the arrival of our friends who will be in the connecting room to us. . Their first disney trip! It's been really nice to have a down day today. Been organizing the room and swimming. Heading to the poly for dinner tonight. Excited to get that first magical glimpse of Cinderella castle!!;)

Thanks for the helping the days pass as I counted down the days til our trip everyone!

Wow! What a start to your vacay!! That is very odd about not getting DME to your resort! And no explanation either :confused3
Love POR, hope you get to enjoy Piano Bobs show. Worth going to. The Pasta Bar in food court is sooooo good! Have a great trip.

Thanks , do we tip the taxi driver and if so how much do most tip ? Can we just go out front and ask for a taxi or do we need to call ahead of time ?

Taxis are often waiting outside, but the resort can call one for you pretty quickly if not. A few dollars would be a fine for a tip on a $15 ride.

I have been scanning through the thread and not too much stands out as far as "insider tips" go for the resort, but I thought I'd ask anyway. Anyone know of any secrets they wouldn't mind sharing?! We are looking at a river view room fingers crossed for building 14 or so. Figured I would make the request at booking and again a few weeks before. We are also hoping for free dining, as we are going in September. Thought about upgrading, but not really sure? :
TIA!

There's a pretty good chance FD will happen for September, and if it does they will change your booking to whatever is available in the offer at that time, which might not be the same room category. River View is a pretty safe option location-wise, as even if you don't get your request for building 14 all of the other rooms are along the circular river bank pathway and so the walking distances to anywhere are pretty good.

Can you get them without paying the surcharge? Has any one had any luck getting luck getting one by just requesting it? Or are they reserved exclusively for those paying the rate for a preferred room?

It does happen sometimes, but don't count on it. You may have better luck by NOT asking for it directly, but phrase your request in such a way that a preferred location would look ideal for you. Adding extra impromptu pixie dust for guests is something that the allocators love to do if they can, but my feeling is they like to do it for families who seem to need it, or would find it most magical, rather than just because someone has asked for what amounts to a free upgrade.

So we are booked for POR in November in a preferred room, but hoping and praying for FD, it's looking good. But was just running numbers, to go up to a a Royal Room, our daughters will be 7 & 5, it's only an extra $100 for the trip. Is it worth it? I think my girls would love them and it will feel a little more Disneyish than a AB room. Input?

For daughters of that age, and only $100 extra, I'd go for it - they'll love it! The $100 will be worth it for the look on their faces when they first walk into the room, and it will be something they will remember long after other details may have faded. They are the demographic these rooms were made for.

I always reckon what have you got to lose? Even if there are lots of people waiting for the online checkin cast members, the line moves much quicker and often they will pick you out before you even get into the line and check you in using hand-held tablets. And if the regular line is a lot shorter for some reason, use that one, they can still check you in.

Make sure your requests are listed in your booking beforehand (or faxed if you prefer) and hope that the CM allocating the rooms a few hours before you get there (it is done manually) finds you something special from the pool of Ready rooms available to them on the system at that time.

And if you don't like what you get offered when you arrive, remember that you are not 'locked in' and you can always ask them to check again to see if anything better has become available in the intervening few hours. Effectively gives you a double-dip into the room pool. It really is a win-win as far as I can see.

As I sit awake this morning, waiting to hear about school delays due to flooding, I realize that I am going to Disney World this month!! May 31-June 3:) After the winter we had, and now some water in my newly carpeted basement, I am soooo ready!

Always great when " the month" rolls around! ;) So sorry about your basement. What a terrible winter/early spring!! Has to go up from here right? :)

With the rain here, and a huge list of things to get done I am just trying to make it 9 more days until we can be relaxing at POR!!!!!

When we did online check in it said we all already had pins?? Could they have been from last May? I assume we can redo them when we arrive right?

Yes, PINs will recur on your account. You can change them now and make new ones if you like though, just go back into the editing/checkin process and re-do.

It won't let us. The box where you enter says for me "your pin is set" and for my husband says "has a pin". Same for my parents. It did not allow us to enter one this trip. Above that section says you must visit a resort desk to change your pin???? We have no idea what pin we used last May? Just curious as to why it wouldn't let us enter one at all this trip.

Odd, you should be able to go into My Disney Experience > My Profile > Payment Methods and then in PIN Settings you should see a button called "Reset PIN".

No, I haven't seen one guest that faxed and did online check in that didn't receive any magic. So I believe by now they have worked out the bugs in the system. Plus when you show up you can still confirm about any requests you had made at the counter and if they didn't meet something they will certainly try!

Hello all, I am about 500 days out from my trip. Yes I'm one of those planners! We have decided to stay at Port Orleans Riverside, first time in a moderate resort! :cool1:
I have been scanning through the thread and not too much stands out as far as "insider tips" go for the resort, but I thought I'd ask anyway. Anyone know of any secrets they wouldn't mind sharing?! I'm a planner too! We are planning a 2 week trip Aug 24, 2015. The resort is absolutely gorgeous and walking around is no biggie. The secret is to ask yourself what is more important to you....being close to a bus stop, being close to a pool or being close to the main building. For us being close to a bus stop is more important because late at night you just dont wanna walk to far to your room. www.portorleans.org is an awesome website that has maps of all the buildings and rooms ect and it has loads of info.
If you are gonna eat breakfast at POR before going to the parks go as soon as they open because the place is a madhouse around 8-9am. If I think of anything I will let you know.

We have 10 days till we go! I can't wait. We have 3 different rooms we splurged on a Royal room but my parents and in laws did not. I was told by my TA to not do online checkin but wait and they might be able to move us as close as possible to each other if we wait.. Was this a bad idea or should we still do online checkin? My DD is going to want to go back between each grandparents so the closer the better.

No reason at all to avoid doing online checkin, the only real difference is that rooms get allocated and Welcome Packs made up a few hours before arrival rather than when you get to the desk.

However, you do need to ensure that your three bookings are LINKED in the reservations system, so they know you are all travelling together. Yours is the sort of booking that they like to try to catch in advance, to get the best room options worked out for you.

I also would suggest faxing them 5 days before you are due to arrive, explaining the situation and asking if they could try to locate your parents & inlaws regular rooms as close to your Royal Room as possible (i.e. both near to the quiet pool between Magnolia Terrace and Oak Manor). You never know, they may even be able to spread some extra pixie dust...

Looking at the map it looks like there is a bridge the Oak and Parterre sections of Magnolia bend to get over to the lobby and food court, is that for walking and how far of a walk is it? Also how far is the walk to the bus and boat stops?

Yes there is a pedestrian only bridge there between the two Parterre and Oak Buildings. It isn't far at all to cross there and then walk up to the main building. Maybe 5 mins if that.
