Port Orleans Riverside Q&A Thread 2014 (Please read first post for FAQs!)

We were looking at staying at PO Riverside for our trip in September. I went on Disney's website and added all my perimeters and it seems that PO Riverside quite a bit cheaper than other moderates. Even cheaper than Values by $500 for the time we're staying. I got a quote of $1711 for 2 adults, 3 kids, disney dining plan, 3 days of tickets, no park hopper/waterparks. I used the "compare" option so I was sure to enter the same specifications for all resorts. Art of Animation was $2192 for the same perimeters and just for comparison, Boardwalk and Yacht club are both deluxe and only $70 more than Art of Animation. Does anyone know why this seems to be the case? Thanks!

Probably because you have 5 people. POR is the most economical because of that extra little pull down bed. If you can get the free dining deal too, that makes it even more economical!

We booked for 2 nights in August through our TA today. There are 5 of us (Dad, Mom, 18yo, 16yo and 13yo). The reservation agent on the phone told our TA that we might be told at check in that we need a second room, depending on the size of our 13 yo. (She is about 5ft, 80lbs, so she should just fit in the Murphy bed.) I don't ever recall reading that there is a size limit for the fifth person at POR. Does anybody know if this actually happens, or was it a case of the reservation agent making up her own rules?

The Murphy bed is smaller than a normal bed. I am not sure what the length is but if your 13 yo is too big it would make sense that you would need 2 rooms. Andre or Venom will probably be able to answer this better. You could always call and find out is there is a size our weight limit.

I know that Andre has the dimensions of the Murphy bed on his website. There are links at the beginning of this thread. :) I don't think she'll be too big though.

Just a couple questions that may help me make my decision. Booking through Orbitz and preferred room is not a choice. Would book River view since it looks like most of these rooms also offer convenient locations. From looking at the map is there a bridge farther down close to Royal room locations?

Is the boat transportation to Downtown Disney still going with the construction going on at DD?

And what's the best way to get to POFQ from Riverside?

Yes, if you can't book Preferred then the River View rooms are mostly very convenient for access to the main buildings and for the main pool area - you might even be given a River View room in buildings 14 or 27, which are two of the 'preferred' buildings.

If you decide to go with Royal Rooms, then I'd suggest getting Pool View rather than River View for the best access via that footbridge you mentioned.

Yes, the boats to DTD are still running, but at present they are docking at the central Pleasure Island dock rather than the Rainforest Café end.

From POR to POFQ is a pleasant 10-15 minute walk along the riverbank, or you could take one of the ferry boats if you like (about 5 mins ride).

Doing the 8:00pm dinner show at the Poly what is my best plan to get there, and what time should we leave POR?

Be at the bus stop no later than 7pm, ideally I'd suggest about 6:30pm to allow for worst-case timing scenarios. Catch a bus to the Magic Kingdom, and then from there either the monorail or a resort ferry boat over to the Poly.

Personally I'd go a bit earlier and spend some time looking round the Poly, shops, etc. Coming back it might be easier to change at Downtown Disney, depending on what time the MK closes.

The free dining deal can be great value if you get five people in the room, not so much if there's only one of you (when room discounts might give you a better deal).

No, they won't insist that you change rooms at checkin as there is no technical booking limit to the size of the five people in an AB room. However they will of course warn you of the fifth bed size, but the decision is up to you. The murphy beds are 63"x30", but we've had comments here that even people up to about 65" seem to be able to use them fairly comfortably. My DD (63" at the time) was perfectly happy on one.

Hi, POR newbie :) but after a night of reading every thread, I called a changed our reservation from RR - garden view to RR - pool view because it's a short walk to foot bridge ... right??

Thanks!

Yep. As I just said in the post above yours in fact. RR Pool View gives you the best guarantee of proximity to the footbridge (some specific Garden or River rooms might be a bit closer, but you'd have no guarantee of getting those particular rooms of course).

Our 11 yr old GS slept perfectly fine on the Murphy bed when we stayed at POR.. He was 5 feet 1 inch tall & weighed about 100 pounds at the time.
He loved it. lol.
Never heard of anyone being asked to book a second room based on the size of the people in their travel party. Yet.

Ack! Not sure how I missed that, thanks again! (And sorry)

We went to Disney for the very first time ever back in 2012! Of course we fell in love!
hubster & I have been planning a special trip for our 15th anniversary in 2018 (don't laugh...I'm a HUGE planner) We were thinking Vegas, Alaska & of course Disney. At first we discarded the idea of Disney because we didnt think it was fair to our daughter. But the more we thought about the more we really really really wanted to go back to Disney so we finally decided to go to Disney with our daughter for our 15th anniversary.
Yep we already started planning even though we know we cant book right now. Let the obsession begin lol

We've talked about going alone before and figured we'd have to lie to our kids about where we're going. Ha!

Faxed in my room request this morning (only request was for connecting rooms as originally stated in our booking) 90 minutes later I got a phone call from a very nice cm (young man named Bailey) letting me know our request had been received by them, and we would be near the main buildings with our requested connecting rooms!!!! So stinking excited! No idea what building we are going to be in, but I honestly don't care! Whatever pixie dust is bestowed to us I'm happy for! Come on Thursday!!!!

My first stay there. My mom (who has stayed there before) loved it! I'm just happy for us (hubby and 3 kids, and my mom) to get away and enjoy the beauty! Was very surprised to get a phone call! Wasn't expecting that at all!

Glad to hear the CMs were kind enough to give you a call back. But just so other members here know they do not call everyone back so please don't get scared if they don't call everyone else.

Have a safe journey to us!
