My brother wants to spend 2 nights at one of these resorts as the start of his honeymoon in November. He wanted my opinion about which was better so I am wasking you all. Any comments, thoughts? Obviously he will be without kids, looking for a more romatic time, but he is on a budget.

Any thoughts? Are the pools similar?

In my opinion the CBR is geared towards families with kids and POR is much more quiet and romantic for couples. :bride:

I think CBR is a wonderfull romantic place to stay for a honeymoon. You have the beach, and the hammocks. You have the quiet island to stroll and relax on. I don't think you can go wrong with either of them.

Both resorts are great. I prefer PO over CBR. I think the theming is better. It's a little quiter. Nice areas to walk. Boat service to DTD. Request building 5, centrally located for pool, bus stop, food court and boat launch. Either one is a good choice.

POR.
Not only do we like it much better overall, but I think the southern charm laid back atmosphere is much better in the romantic department. You have the boat to DTD which is great too for them to ride down river to the restaurants and pleasure island. No crowded bus, no need to drive.
Pool at POR is much more "secluded" in feel, maybe due to all the landscape and the quiet pools are very nice. The ones in AB are free form and surrounded by landscaping. The Mansion side has some gazebos and nice benches along the river, great place to walk or sit. We also like that the POR pool is basically an L shape cut with a bridge. One end is more shallow with the slide and close to baby pool making it popular with families. The other end is deeper by the hot tub and bar, making it more popular with adults and older kids. CBR main pool is not very large and kids are using all areas of it. The hot tub is extremely small and right at the steps the kids use to climb out and go to the slide. Not well planned.

I agree with Safetymom, you cannot go wrong with either. I loved our stay at POR, the boat ride to DTD, the carriage rides, the lovely paths you can walk around and the southern charm all lend to romance. However, the lush tropical landscaping, pretty, charming buildings, the hammocks around the lake are also great for romance. I know last December my dh and I went to CBR for nine nights with our two kids. One night he and I stood on the bridge that connects Aruba and Jamaica with Old Port Royale and watched Illuminations, just the two of us while the kids were swimming (my kids are 11 and 13 and knew right where we were which was very close). I can tell you that in 15 years of marriage that was one romantic moment! We also laid in the hammocks one night while our kids played on the beach (again very nearby we could see them and hear them) looking up at the stars. Again, very nice romantic spot to enjoy with the one you love!

I would go with theming that appeals. Southern charm and a river or tropical lushness with a lake.

We stayed at both three times and I say POR because of the decor and themeing and DH says CBR because he likes that feel better...both have great food courts and bars and both are large complexes with many bus stops.

Another vote for POR! :thumbsup2 We just stayed there 2 weeks for our 10th anniversary.

POR +1. You also have the horse buggy ride which can be pretty romantic. The manors/buildings are very attractive and represent several styles. Plus, not only just DTD, you can resort hop by walking or horse cart or boat to POFQ for fresh beignets for breakfast, go by boat to OKW and grab a bite at Olivias, or to SSR for a spa day. We also love Southern style food, so Boatwrights at POR is one of our favorite places to eat. Not that popular for many other folks, so there's almost always availability.

CBR is nice, but you have Shutters as your only TS option there without jumping on a bus or in a car.

POR for sure!

Even though the Poly is my absolute favorite resort, I call POR my favorite because it is the resort I know I could afford on every trip. Love the theming, quietness and the foodcourt.

I have never stayed at CB, but I have visited and I can see where the beach/hammocks/ and quiet pools would be a great place for soem quiet time togehther. I have stayed at POR and I would definately say that the quiet pool is the way to go for pools. It is a lovely resort and busy. Boatwrights has the best filet mignon!

For some romantic things to do might I suggest California Grill at sunsetfor hors-d'ovres and drinks, go to the boardwalk and rent a surrey bike or just walk around. Your brother can shoot some hoops and win his new bride a prize or vice versa-she can win one for him! DTD is always fun for all ages!

My vote goes to CBR - but my home is in Alabama so the POR seemed too much like home to me.....the CBR reminds me of Nassau!!

I'd vote for PO, but POFQ over POR. The hot tub is very secluded and has a jazz player in the lounge. POR is geared more towards families, especially AB section. They could always get the carriage ride at POR. The boat ride is wonderful. But either PO over CBR, it has no elevators. I won't stay on the ground level. I'm too afraid of what my enter my room on the ground level.

another for POR. My husband and I (no kids) have stayed there twice and find it quite romantic. Nice to take the walks around the grounds, take the boat to dtd, or just spend some time on a bench by the river. each time we have requested to be in the magnolia building. it is not too far from everything and even has its own quiet pool. we would recommend it highly.

it is so good we are headed back in march!! cant wait.:woohoo:

never stayed in CBR but stayed in POR and it was beautiful. Going back in January and I cannot wait.
