Hi Everyone!!

Thinking about heading back "Home", in August and was wondering about PO. Which side would you pick for myself DH and DS 15? We have never stayed at a moderate. We usually split between a value and a deluxe, but the deluxes are a bit too much for this years trip. I would appreciate any suggestions!!

Thanks,
Heidi

Hi Heidi - here was my mini review on PO FQ:

Just returned from POR-French Quarter

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey all,

Just got back from a 6 night trip with my wife and 2 sons - age 4 1/2 and 19 and to sum up this resort in one word - Fabulous. I traveled for business for many years and have stayed at virtually all hotel chains and can not put into words how much we thouroughly enjoyed the FQ. Here are just a few reasons a to why:

1. Resort Size. 1000 rooms equals less than 4,000 people on property. Spoke with somone at the front desk and was told that they were 95% sold out. It was hard to believe because at any given time - you never saw more than 60-70 people roaming throughout the grounds.

2. Room. Can't say enough about it. Perfect size. I would rate the comfortness of the beds a 7.5 based upon a scale of 1-10. The pillows - a 5. Definately recommend you bring along your own favorite. Showers were very warm and the seperate "powder room" with the dividing curtain was much appreciated - especially with a 4 year old sleeping and sharing the room with a 19 year old. The 2 sinks were great - allowing both of us to get ready at the same time.

3. Free Fridge. Perfect size. We ordered groceries form Garden Grocer and were able to fit the following items in it: (Had to remove the 2 shelves)
1. Gallon milk
2. Gallon OJ
3. Pint coffee creamer
4. Pint of fruit
5. (8) 16oz bottles of water
6. (4) Juice boxes
7. 1/2lb. Cold cuts

4. Cleanlieness/Housekeeping: Room was perfectly clean. Floors, bathroom, linens all top notch. Tipped Mousekeeping $5 per day - got one towel animal - but everday she organized the characters that my son had brought down. Very very nice coming back to an immaculate and cool room every night.

5. Pool. The pool rocked. Warm, clean and plenty of towels. The slide was a huge hit with my little guy - probaly going down it 2 dozen times. Only downside - closed a few nights due to lightning and one night due to a very sick child who got sick in it and they were forced to heavily shock it and close it down for 12 hours.

5. Restaurant. What can I say - it's a Disney "Cafa-restaurant." Burgers and fries were very good. Breakfast was decent. Omlettes, french toast and mickey waffles. Never had a crowd issue. Always waited until 8:30-9:00 to eat. I'm sure it may have been packed at 7:00 - but that's to be expecetd.

6. Buses. Other than waiting for an Epcot bus for 25 minutes the night we arrived, NEVER waited more than 10 minutes - and most of the days less than 5 minutes. Found that if we arrived at the bus stop 5 minutes to the hour - we would always catch a bus ASAP. Yes, sometimes you share with POR, but because it's the 1st stop we always had a seat. Returning from the parks - 1st off as well and really never had any issues with overcrowding. Usually there were 2 buses loading at almost the same time.

7. Staff.. Friendly and courteous. Had an autographed b-day card signed by all of the characters for my oldest and an anniversary card/photo from Prince Charming and Cinderella for our anniversary. Bell hops delivered our Garden Grocer delivery and refused to take a tip. Called maint. about 2 burned out light bulbs in the bathroom area and they were at our door in less than 5 minutes! Couldn't believe it.

8. Love Bugs. NONE!

9. Weather. 95 degrees all week with 95% humidity. Pack an extra shirt when heading out. Also rained almost every afternoon. Always had four $1.00 - Dollar store umbrellas in my messenger bag along with a $10 stroller cover. ( Always used it when we went on the rides. Saved us 3 times in a week from coming back to a drenched stroller)

10. Extra Info. Don't spend the extra dollars for a water view room. The view of the river is nice but worth about $1.00. Plus, a water view pretty much puts your farthest away from the lobby, buses etc... Unlike other resorts (POP Century for example) where it's well worth paying for a preferred room due to the proximity to the pools, buses, restaurant etc.... definately not needed here. We stayed in building 6 - Room 6108 and would probably request that same building and room again. It was a corner room with 2 windows right next to the stairs and NEVER heard a sound. 3 minutes walk at the most to all facilities. Walked the last day to POR's gift shop with our 4 year old ( refused to sit in the stroller) and made it there in less than 15 minutes.

Overall - I rate POR FQ an 8.5. If you are looking for a well maintained, beautifully lanscaped resort - with less than a 4 minute walk from end-to-end, then this is the resort for you

Sooooo g ood to hear!!! We're also staying at POFQ and I love hearing such great things about it!!

Hey Heidi, glad to see you are thinking about my favorite resorts ;)

to start off with, you really can't go wrong with either. DH and I prefer POFQ because we like the small area of the resort. It's so romantic to walk through the paths at night  . I think that POR has a better pool area. If your DS likes the pool thing, you might want to consider staying here. They also have a pool bar and larger jacuzzi (I think...never officially measured). FQ has a pool bar as well.
POR has a resturant and food court. POFQ only has food court. Both have seperate bar areas.
POR has an area to rent bikes and boats.

Like I said, I just like FQ better for the closeness and romantic feeling. If/when DH and I have children, we will reconsider staying at POR again ;)

POFQ, it is smaller and the busses are WAY better than at Riverside, because you are the first stop to go to the parks and the first stop on the way back.

We absolutely love POFQ!!! I would pick FQ over POR anytime! The resort is wonderful! It is also smaller and easier to get around. Also, if you are using the buses...The bus service is also much better since they pick up and drop off at POFQ first.

I personally LOVE POR. Yes it is larger than POFQ, but the people are pretty spread out so it never feels like there are more people. I personally like the atmosphere of POR more than POFQ and think it is really romantic...in fact I'm going to be spending my honeymoon there at the end of December! It is so nice to be able to walk all about the different paths especially through Alligator Bayou. I've actually stayed at all of the resorts, but love POR the best.

Like others said though, they are both great and within walking distance of one another. My family and I enjoy walking and seeing the sites so we would often walk all about POR and go down to FQ and usually get off the buses there and walk back riverside to soak up the atmosphere of being in Disney! As for room size and cast members etc... they are equal. Cast members are friendly at both (in fact they split time between both resorts usually). If you and your family are looking more for a closer/quicker to get places resort and are probably going to spend a lot of time at the parks then FQ is probably more for you, but if you enjoy walking, swimming, and will spend more time at the resort than parks then you would probably enjoy Riverside more because there is more to do and see.

Have fun at whichever resort you pick!

I have stayed at both and my vote is for POFQ.

I liked Riverside for the theming but when it comes to the important stuff (bus service and time in transit) POFQ is better because it's last pick-up and first drop-off. Riverside has multiple stops and then you have to stop at POFQ before heading off to the parks. Also, POFQ is a smaller resort so it does not take as long to walk to the food court and what not.

If I did stay at Riverside again though I would definitely want to stay in the Alligator Bayou section as opposed to the mansion. ;)

I really liked Riverside, it was beautiful.

I would stay at Riverside. It has an amazing food court. the scenery is gorgeous. Boatwright's restaurant is there. It is bigger than FQ. I stayed there in July and I am going back in January.
The pools are great.

Scott, I read your trip report and it was awesome! Thanks!

I see you stay at AKL before and going to POFQ will be a disappointment. I would returning to AKL! We tried it this year and didn't care for it at all. But its tough dropping from a deluxe to a mod.

For me, POFQ being the first on the busses is a negative. Yes you get a seat, but then most times you ride around the whole POR resort before heading to the parks. The less time spent on the busses the better. I would rather be last on and stand, and be to the parks that much quicker. :thumbsup2

I'm with you on this one, although we seem to be in the minority!:)

During our stay at POR in August, we used the East Depot, which is the last stop. Busses came in about 5-10 minutes, were usually half empty (we never had to stand on the way to the parks), and then headed right to the parks.

We loved POR, but I don't think you will go wrong with either one.

I am a big fan of POFQ. I have never stayed at CBR, but out of the other 3, POFQ is my favorite. POFQ, then POR and CSR lastly.

POFQ is quiet, the CMs are wonderful, Mousekeeping does a great job, the bus service has always been great, the landscaping and courtyards are beautiful and everything is close to everything.

I disagree with the comments about the bus. At POFQ, you are the first to be picked up and first to be dropped off. This to me is no different than stopping at 4 bus stops at CSR or POR. ;)

Yes, it's all well and good to be first on and first off BUT leaving the parks its a cattle call. Not lines, people rushing the buses. First on or off doesn't matter when you pack in the bus like a sardine.

Oh! I'm happy to hear that you had a great time at POFQ. This is our first time staying at a WDW resort, we will staying at POFQ the last week in November.

Really, really excited. I'm not sure if the pool will be opened, but I'm looking forward to the trip!

Thanks, again for your posting.

Agreed. We ALWAYS stay at Riverside (Alligator Bayou) and we LOVE it. So beautiful. We are more of nature lovers and it truly was amazing. We walked over to FQ and just didn't like the exterior. It's always personal preference, but our favorite moderate resort is POR Riverside (Alligator Bayou).

I don't think you can go wrong with either, but I loved POR! We were at POR in July and were assigned to AB#38, I had requested AB on my reservation and we got it even though we are a family of 4. I think your DS will like the pool at POR better than POFQ, but you can use both pools no matter which one your staying at. POR has an awesome arcade and food court. I loved all the landscaping at POR and the bunnies and other wildlife. We used the North bus stop and I don't remember ever waiting long for a bus or standing. After Fantasmic we had to stand on the way back but most days we left before the shows and there weren't big crowds on the bus. If your going to DTD the boat is the way to go! It is a scenic and relaxing ride and another good thing about the PO resorts. I don't think you will be disappointed at all.
