Port Orleans Riverside FAQ thread - Royally Refurbished for 2011

Checking in Novemer 5, I can hardly wait. Yeehaw Bob, here we come, save a seat for us! We always request Alligator Bayou, as that is our favorite, but deviating and requesting any finished refurbed room which would be Magnolia Bend at that time. Crossing my fingers, but any room in WDW beats any room in Meadvile, PA! We have 4 rooms, so it might be harder for us to get the finished rooms, but I can hope.:banana:

We were at POR last week also (sorry, no spy pictures :guilty:). We did notice the games and dancing at the main pool. It was alot of fun! I am sooo sad to be home!

Did they have queen beds in all rooms yet?

Did your room have Queens? and if so, was it because you upgraded to the Queens?

The new rooms look awesome! We are arriving at POR on 9/17/11. I called yesterday and added a room request for Acadian House and if that is not available then Magnolia Terrace. I am crossing my fingers that we get a refurbed room.

Thanks for posting the pics!

Are there still 2 sinks in the bathrooms?

I am pretty positive there are 2 sinks in the bathrooms of the refurbed rooms. I just couldn't get a good angle with my camera since I was pressing it against the glass between the slats of the blinds when snapping the pictures. :)

Good pics, thanks for posting! Not sure how I feel about the curtain area being removed in favor of the door... it looks a little more closed off, less open feeling, maybe making the room look smaller? I'd have to see more pics before I decide about this. The rest of it looks very nice though :thumbsup2

So, we are going to POR in January, unfortunately to early for a royal room, but I really would like to stay in Magnolia Bend, not Alligator Bayou (tne look just appeas to me more). We have booked a preferred room, or I should say MIL booked it, the trip is a gift. I want to say I have read on here that all preferred rooms are in AB. Is this true?

If so, what category should I Change to to have a shot at a refurbished room in Magnolia Bend?

All room categories except Preferred should be available in all buildings of the mansions. Just switch to any other category, and then request a refurbished room. That's about all you can do.

Does anyone else think that, from the pictures, this could possibly be an accessible room? In one picture you can see a handrail in the bathroom area. Also, if you look at the pictures of an accessible room on allears.net, the doorway looks very similar. Any thoughts?

I actually wondered this myself but it was the same in all the rooms I peeked in. (I think what might appear to be a handrail is a door knob). Also, the pictures I took of the room with the light on was on the 2nd floor. Does anyone know if they usually have accessible rooms on the 2nd floor?

I just want to thank the delivery of those spy refurb pics. That is really nice of you.

I cant wait for the royal rooms either. I have mine reserved! Anyone know of a credible source for extra magic hours for March of 2012?

Thanks in advance!

Looks fabulous, thanks for the upload. Not at home at the moment so just a quick reply via Mr Android. I actually wonder if this might be an Accessible Room as a lot of the detail looks similar to what they did for wheelchair access at POFQ. I'll comment more when back at main PC.

Oops, double post. Sorry.

By the way, there are accessible rooms on upper floors, but only near to the elevators.

Anyone have any suggestions on a building or room to request in the AB section? I didn't reserve preferred, should we upgrade?
We'll be there in December, family of 5 so I know we'll be in AB. Can't wait, 3rd time at POR but first as a family of 5, we've only ever been in the Mansions section, even though I requested AB for our honeymoon, hehe. :rolleyes1

We stayed in 1443 and loved it. It had just been cleaned and even shampoo the carpets before we got in. It is a very short distance to food court and main bus depot. Here are some Google earth I have more pics of the view from the room and balcony. If you want pics from AB building 14 let me know. It had two double beds and a trundle bed.

In this second photo it is actually the room to the right of the one I circled. Sorry.

I have uploaded a few more of my pictures (quality is not good since the room was dark). I keep looking at the previous pictures I posted (room with light on) and the more I look, the more I think it may be an accessible room. As I said before it was on the 2nd floor of Acadian House and I did see a few more rooms with that same configuration.

Here are the "dark" room pictures (again I apologize for the quality) but it does appear that the entry way to the bath area is larger than the room with the pictures with the light on:

And again for comparison purposes the pictures of the room that had the light on:

Hope this helps some. Maybe someone else will post some better pictures. :)
