Port Orleans Riverside FAQ thread - Royally Refurbished for 2011

I am thinking of staying at POR for our upcoming honeymoon in November. Does anyone know if we requested a King size bed is there anyway we would be close to a bus stop? Or where exactly the King Size beds are located?

King Bed rooms are scattered all around the resort, so yes you could be near to the bus stop. King Bed is not just a request by the way, it's an upgrade category that you pay extra for.

I'm going to be lazy here and ask a question I'm sure I could find if I read through all the past posts, so please excuse me in advance. We are headed down in two weeks and will be staying at POR. I have two children with me and I would prefer queen beds, if possible. My 2-year-old is a whirlwind while sleeping and since I will, in all likelihood, end up in bed with him, the more space, the better. Are any of the rooms in POR already renovated? If so, which areas? If I put in a request, does anyone know the best way to make that happen? Should I do online check-in or wait until we are there to check-in. We have never stayed at POR before, so I am pretty much unfamiliar with the whole area. Also, we booked with a travel agent (I am not thrilled with her either), if that changes anything in the process.
Thanks in advance for the help!

Check portorleans.org for the renovation schedule; this is a total "we don't even know". We haven't even been able to find out if the section they said was to be completed recently.

Your TA owns the ressie until she releases it to you, so your only option is to have try to have her release it to you asap, and then do a little research (sorry, it seems like you aren't interested in it, but that is how it goes) and then check on this thread or Andre's website, to see if we have been able to find out any information about whether any of the buildings have been completed and if they really do have queen sized beds.

Honestly, we have been speculating at this point, no one has actually been able to say it is true.

Congrats to all those getting close to their vacations! Here's another that might bring back some fond memories...

Thanks for the pics! One week from today we will be there.

So if we book the preferred room category, that would guarantee that we would be closest to what? And we could possibly have a king size bed then but not guaranteeD?

Never stayed at POR but we are going Sept 10-18 and staying there :woohoo:

And I bought my Sept 13th NSSHP tickets yesterday :banana:

I didn't request a specific room but maybe I will get a little pixie dust and get one of the new rooms. :goodvibes

Hi,

Last week, I was reading through this thread, and I thought I had read (perhaps from Andre), that all rooms in AB have a trundle bed.

We are going at the end of September (9/29 - 10/8), and it's the three of us (myself, DW, and DD whose 3 1/2).

We have a king bed at home, and have trouble sleeping together in anything smaller. We tend to let the little one sleep with one of us.

We paid for a preferred room last year, which from what I read, says will be in AB, close to the main building.

So, anyway, we are wondering if we will get a trundle bed room, for just the three of us?

Also, does anybody know if we could switch to the new renovated rooms, since we paid for the preferred room rate?

Thanks!

Preferred Room and King Bed are separate booking categories. You can only book one or the other, and to my knowledge, you have to request the other one although I don't know how that works since they are both up-charged categories. Preferred Rooms are solely in the AB section and are the buildings closes to the main pool, food court, water taxis and main buildings.

There are no AB rooms that are renovated yet or by the time you are going. All Preferred Rooms are in AB, so you'd have to downgrade your category if the lower category is available, and request a renovated room in the mansions which won't be guaranteed. You'd also lose your chance at the trundle since there are no trundles in AB. Whether you stay in AB or the mansions, you will probably get a room with two double beds since you have to actually book and pay more for a King room, which is a separate booking category from Preferred and you can only book one or the other. I can't speak to whether or not there are trundles in every AB room.

Just booked my first stay at POR for Columbus Day weekend! I admit I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to the hotels where I stay, but I've always been intrigued by this place and to quite honest, I didn't want to shell out major bucks for a deluxe since we'll be transferring tot he Swan for the rest of the week. I requested a king room in Oak Manor. Someone please tell me I'll have a nice room with a great view. Anyone stay in this building? How was it? Can't wait to get down there!

Heck yeah we are excited . Had a plan for Sept 23rd trip this year but had to cancel months and months ago  and all of a sudden we are going again, and even earlier

I've stayed in Oak Manor and loved it. I don't think you will be disappointed. Acadian House and Magnolia Terrace should be done with renovations by Columbus Day weekend though, if a renovated room might be more of interest to you. Also, did you book a King room or request it? I don't know if you'd get one with just a request since they are their own booking category. The good news is if it's available, you can pay the upcharge and book a King room where you will be guaranteed one.

The info about the quiet pool refurb in September between Acadian House and Magnolia Terrace... where did that info come from? I've been keeping my eye on refurb schedules since my trip is nearing, and I haven't seen that one on the refurb pages I look at, so I didn't know if there was one more updated than the ones I'm checking. Thanks! :thumbsup2

Can anyone tell me which is the best bus stop for getting to the parks quickest? I have read that sometimes the buses fill before they get around the resort and will go on to the parks. Of course they will send another bus however, I would prefer to be on the first one:thumbsup2.

No, sorry, I said that all of the double bedded rooms in the Alligator Bayou section have trundle beds installed. None of the King Bed rooms do.

Hey just checking in has anyone had any more updated info about the royal guest themed rooms? If so link me please. Thanks a bunch!

Andre,

I guess I wasn't clear in my first post. We have a king bed at home, but we paid for a preferred location room (not the king bed upgrade).

Saying that, from what I read, we're in the AB section, and what I was hoping is that we would get a trundle bed from my DD, and my wife and I could each have a double bed to ourselves.

We were thinking of bringing an air mattress for DD, but now maybe I don't have to.

I guess the real question is, we are a party of only 3, not 5. I guess I was under the impression that there were only a few select rooms in AB with trundle beds.

Thanks!
