I'm not American and I would read 03/09/12 as March 9th 2012 and not the 3rd of September 2012...unless you meant North American...Ummm how would a person from Mexico read 03/09/12?

Probably the same way. I think it was meant for people from Europe. Because they have a tendency to put the day first and then the month. LOL!!

I am in Canada and I never know which way to put the date. I always just write it out.

Worldwide (including Mexico and all of South America) day-month-year is the most widely used date format, by about 3.2bn people (although China also accounts for another 1.5bn with their year-month-day format, which is also a logically stepped sequence).

The USA and a few other territories (accounting for about 310m people) use a month-day-year format. For more info and stats, see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Date_format_by_country. (Canada uses three formats apparently, that must be confusing!)

Out of pure curiosity (and this is getting way off-topic!) I did a bit of digging to find out why the US ended up using the odd notation of month-first, and the best I could track down is on datestamp.org:

So why did some areas of the US use the M/D/Y fomat and where did this illogical format originate? The best explanation our research has produced is Eleanor Roosevelt. While she was writing letters for her ill husband, President Franklin D. Roosevelt on her personal stationary, she would only record the month/date at the top center of the page. The White House archive assistant realized that a year must be added to each of the letters for historical reference, but due to the stationary logo treatment, the only place to add the year was on the end of the date. A few of these letters were photographed and sent out to the press and printed in newspapers across the nation with the odd date format. Eleanor was so respected by the people, this date stamp format became common.

I don't know but that is what Andre turned it into as a joke.

All I'm saying is beware of the possible confusion which can (and did, earlier in this thread) arise from writing dates as mm/dd/yy - or indeed dd/mm/yy come to that - as both formats are highly ambiguous when read in a non-local context.

Now can someone explain why the U.S. doesn't use the metric system?

LOL. I'm happy with either system there, as at least the units are clearly defined. Except... did you know that UK gallons are different to US ones? So are pints; it all comes down to the US defining one pint as 16 fluid ounces, whereas the standard Imperial measures definition is 20 fluid ounces. And no, I don't know why 20 either, the US 16 makes much more sense to me as it matches with 16 ounces = 1 pound in weight measurement.

I agree I just post like this now, March 9th 2012

Less panic-stricken people all round that way. 9th of March 2012 for Royal Rooms it is then.

And anyway, by the time we've worked all this out, Disney could have changed the date again! :)

I just checked this morning all of the views and royal rooms are now listed on the disney website and can be booked after the dates starting march 13th. Woo Hoo it looks like we are going to be able to stay in the royal rooms on our trip.
they are still listing the garden view with double beds :sad2: hopefully they will have enough done to list it as queen beds soon on the site.

I am so excited that things are looking more on schedule for the royal rooms!!!!:cutie:

Hello :) I've heard that the food court at POR has an amazing pasta bar....I am thinking of coming here our last night for a QS dinner and doing the pasta bar, then taking the boat to DTD.....can you tell me a little about how you like the pasta bar? Is it a sufficient dinner idea? Thanks! :goodvibes
A visit to POR will also give me a chance to scope out a mod....you never know in the future! ;)

That is correct for the non-Royal rooms, and I would expect them to continue to list rooms that way until the refurbishment is fully completed (around August) at which point they can guarantee guests queen beds. In the meantime, best to advertise what guests are likely to get - and listing it as an either/or option would surely only lead to more questions.

When we decide to eat at the resort, I usually go for the pasta bar. It is very good but I wouldn't say it's amazing. It is cooked fresh to order. You can choose your type of past, sauce, shrimp or chicken, and different veggies.

In general I think that many of the offerings at the POR food court are great. My husband always orders these massive burgers that have bacon, cheese, and other toppings. My kids usually go for the home cooked type meals, like turkey dinners or that type of offerings, or the personal pizzas. I think that you would be quite pleased with your meal. The boat ride to DTD is fun, too.

During our stay in August, we are planning on taking breaks in the afternoon back at POR to swim and relax. We'll either be grabbing a QS lunch before we leave the parks or when we get back to POR. Are there enough choices for kids and adults at the food court where we won't get bored ? Is it usually super busy in the afternoon?

That's what we usually do. I figure about 3 lunches at POR and the of the lunches I eat in the parks just before heading home. Yes there is variety but after those three days you'll probably look forward to a change. Plus I love the empty buses coming back at lunch time. Maybe we'll run into you on those buses. We'll be there from the Aug 21-28.

Same here. Notice I wrote out my date above.

It's official!!

First family trip ever is booked for Oct.14! Cannot wait to show my three little girls (4,2 &2) the Magical World!

So thankful for all of the great information I have learned on this board!

:cool1:

Can anyone tell me any more information about this? We are planning a trip to POR (Our First) for this fall and thought my girls 5 & 10 would have fun.

We are staying at POR for the first time this May. I have a garden view room booked. I would really like to be close to the main area and want to stay in AB. Which building should I request? Also, without reading through this entire thread, which of the AB building have been upgraded to queen beds?

16 and 17 are the closest AB buildings to the main facilities area that aren't classed as 'Preferred' status. So far, the refurbished buildings are 14 (which is Preferred status) and 36, 37, 38 (which are quite far away from the main building). Have a look at the map and the FAQ post at the beginning of this thread for more info.
