Thinking of booking there, but have never stayed there before. I've read up some of riverside, but now hear the french quarters are reopening... Didn't pay too much attention at the time since I didn't think they'd be open. I have no idea how they connect and all. I imagine you can walk between, but can you use either's pool or is that considered pool hopping?

Obviously french quarters are newer so there's a big draw, but any particular reason we should stay on the riverside side or french quarter side. We'll be travelling with our 4 kiddos!:sunny:

With four kids, I would suggest staying at the French quarters. The theme there is more "fun", at least it was when I was there. I haven't been there to see the renovations. The Riverside has more of a Romantic theme to it.. (like Southern, Gone with the wind) The French quarters has a Mardi Gra theme. I think the kids would enjoy the pool at the themed pool at the French Quarters. Thats just my Opinion. Last time I was there, both were beautiful. I guess it just depends on what them you want.

Never walked between but know you can along the river. You always used to be able to share the pools without it being pool hopping. My kids love the pool at FQ with the dragon and his tongue is the slide. Everything is also closer together with the farthest rooms a quick walk.

I would stay at FQ. I stayed at Riverside, it was in need of some renovations. At least my room. We stayed in AB building 18.

Theming:
POR: old south with lovely gardens and views, can be rustic in Alligator Bayou section or elegant (but not fussy) in the Mansions
POFQ: mardi gras, new orleans feel, the smallest and easiest to walk around no matter where your room is

Restaurants: both have decent food courts with lots of choices
POR: Boatwrights with a sitdown breakfast and dinner

POFQ: sitdown restaurant has been closed, don't know if they will reopen it when they reopen, but Boatwrights would be about a 10-15 minute walk

Pools: both have beautiful pools
POFQ :doesn't have a quiet pool and my kids really enjoy the quiet pools for some reason, main pool has a dragon tongue slide
POR: main pool has a waterslide, also has sprinkler areas in the pool, Ol' Man Island is the pool area
I think you are allowed to go back and forth between the two pools, but I am NOT positive.

Entertainment: can rent water craft, bikes at all
POR: can rent cane fishing poles and fish for a half hour in the fishing hole ($4), also has Bob Jackson a wonderful piano player in the River Roost Lounge Wed-Sat. My kids loved him. (so did I).
No other additional entertainment that I can think of at POFQ but you could walk over to POR or take the boat

Transportation:
POR and POFQ: share buses with first stop at POFQ for pickup and drop off. Both have free boatride to downtown Disney which is like an attraction itself. Total bus stop number is 5 between the two resorts.

People complain alot about the buses at the moderates, but I think for the amount of people that they have to move, they do remarkably well. Park closing will be a busy time no matter where you stay!

I found housekeeping to be excellent at both
I found the CM's to be very pleasant at both.

It really comes down to what is most important to you as far as theming.

Our personal favorite is POR and that is where we will be returning in August!
