Port Orleans French Quarters or riverside

Which one would you stay at with 2 adults one 2 yr old and one
5 yr old?

What are the differences?

Any comments in general about Port Orleans would also be
helpful.

I have only stayed at Riverside-Mansions, but if you are relying on busses, go with French Quarter, since all the busses stop there first. It's easier with a stroller.
If you have a car, request Acadian House or Oak Manor, to be close to the action within sight of the gorgeous Sassagoula River.
Enjoy!

Both are nice resorts. You can easily take the path along the river to both or later in the afternoon the DD boat.
You cant go wrong with either resort but here is a link to a site with wonderful pictures & descriptions.

POR: Southern mansions & La bayou bldgs. Large resort. Great food court, wonderful lounge with entertainment, Boatwrights/full service restaurant, rooms for 5 guest, one theme pool and several area pools. We like the Magnolia bend section.

POFQ: New Orleans theme, smaller resort, smaller food court, no full service restaurant, great dragon pool.

Here's a vote for French Quarter. Although I have never stayed at Riverside, I have heard some negative things recently. I did stay at French Quarter and LOVED it!! Another reason is that the French Quarter is relatively small - everything is within a 3 - 4 minute walk.... at most, which may be better at the end of a looooonnnnnggg day at the parks and carrying around smaller children.

Ok, my votes for POR. We haven't stayed at FQ though.

We found POR to be a beautiful resort. We stayed in the Alligator Bayou section. It was incredibly lush. the landscaping was beautiful. We had rabbits and ducks outside our door every morning. We were in building 14 and had a beautiful 5 minute walk to the food court and the main pool.

Food court we found to have a good selection of food.

We loved this resort.

The only negative (if you can call it that) was building 14 was a little longer walk from the parking lot than I would have liked. But, the little ones were in strollers so it didn't matter to us. We love walking. It is so peaceful there.

Stayed at both, with small kids I would choose POFQ. I think they will enjoy the serpent's tongue pool slide themeing better than PORS. Also for other reasons stated here, only one bus stop, small resort, so no matter where your room is you won't be far from the food court of bus. Have fun!

We just returned from 4 days at PO-FQ and have a 7 y.o. and 3 y.o. and had what felt to be the perfect location in Building 5 (near the food court and pool). We relied exclusively on the buses, and (as noted above) were the 1st picked up and the 1st dropped off. This means that we never had to stand, though some PO-R folks did. This was during the non-busy season, so I can't imagine what it's like when it's busy. PO-R seemed very spread out. And after a full day in the park, we returned (sometimes w/ both kids asleep), having to carry one or both to our room. Trust me, you don't want to have to go far! Have a great trip. This is a beautiful resort.

I have enjoyed both ... and for me, Riverside is the more romantic of the two, with the mansion-style resorts. Its layout involves more walking, but the scenery is beautiful. In comparison, I think the French Quarters may be encompass a more kid-friendly atmosphere. Less romantic and more colorful and fun. As mentioned before, less walking to the buses, and a more enjoyable water slide and pool. Of course, the pool and slide are the number one priorities for our kids!

Another vote here for French Quarter...especially with kids. It is very small and compact. Very kid oriented...but not overly! And a very big plus is there is only one bus stop! The bus does go over to Riverside next for some parks, and it gets filled quickly there. At French Quarter, you are the first ones on and the first ones off! Nice when you have tired kids at the end of the day! Riverside is beautiful though..and you can walk to it from French Quarter.
