We are visiting next month, our first time (we are from England). I would like to do some fishing, in particular for my very-nearly three year old son to catch his first ever fish at Disney rather than here back home! Can anybody please tell me how good the fishing is at:

(1) The fishing hole at Port Orleans (we are staying at P.O. so this is very handy).

(2) The canals around Fort Wilderness.

Any and all comments appreciated.

Here is a previous thread on FW fishing.

Florida has had a good bit of rain this year so the canals will not be dry.
Bass, Catfish and Bream are the types.
Bike barn and trading post have supplies.

The canals are ok. It is catch and release. Remember there are other types of wildlife that occupy the canals and lake shore areas, so be watchfull.

PO is a smaller area, same type of fish. They charge you for use and some supplies.
The Fishing Hole - You can fish for bluegill and perch at the Ol’ Man Island Fishin' Hole (a fully stocked catch and release pond). You can rent individual cane poles or you can choose the Family cane pole fishing adventure, for up to 6 people that costs around $13 per half hour.

If you don't mind spending some money, you can go on a guided boat fishing trip from FT Wilderness. I think it ranges from $250 - $400 depending on if you want to go for 2 or 4 hours. They use their extremely stable pontoon boats and have room for 4 guests. We did the 4 hour trip and had a ball. The Captain was a young grandmother who made fast friends with my 7 year old niece (and arranged a date for me with her daughter, but that is another story). It was quite an adventure -- we caught, and released, a lot of fish. We went at 7am and first fished the Seven Seas Lagoon, which was very entertaining as the ferry boats had not yet started running from the TTC to the MK. Then we moved back to Bay Lake and fished several spots over there. It was all live bait fishing, and although it wasn't a fish every minute, there was enough action to keep us all amused. Plus, my brother-in-law made two RARE catches. First was a Sony Handicam that was under one of the docks we fished, second was an 8lb2oz bass that we took pictures of, and weighed before releasing. My sister had a replica mount made for him for his birthday.

It was fun, the guide was knowledgable and the gear was good.

We catch lots of fish at FW...the canals are good, we have caught the most right in front of the bike barn where you can rent poles. Ps- the fish LOVE hot dogs! We use them every time:) have fun!
