We hope to book our next cruise while on our cruise in a couple weeks and we are looking at the 2018 Eastern Caribbean 7-night cruise. What is the recommended side of the boat to get a room with a verandah for best views in the ports? We will have done starboard twice for views at Castaway Cay but are willing to forgo the Castaway Cay starboard view if we will have better views on the port side in Tortola & St Thomas/St John's. Thanks for any advice.

Difficult to tell which side will be tied up. In Tortola, when we were there, the ship was tied up on the port side. But such things can vary.

We are booked on a Eastern Caribbean cruise in 2018. I asked a few friends and they all told me starboard so that's what I booked. Hopefully it works out to be the best choice.

We were tied up starboard in Tortola last Oct. I know because walking back along the pier to the ship I could see my husband standing out on our verandah (and we have always booked starboard). I think we were docked along the starboard side when we were in St. Thomas as well. Regardless, when we were up on deck, the views were great, both port and starboard. I think whichever side you choose, you'll be happy!

It doesn't matter.

I think the reason most people are saying that is doesn't matter is simply that you aren't going to be tied up alongside other ships (like at Nassau for example), so you should at least have an interesting view. I won't have an opinion on Tortola until another few weeks, but in St Thomas, I found that if you are on the side with the dock, it isn't as picturesque as the side not along the dock. I mean, there is that fancy little mountain with the cable car, but the otherside is cooler with the way the harbour is. But other have pointed out that sometimes they back in and other times they pull in. So it's a 50/50

For us, in March, we were starboard beside the dock in St. Thomas. We were between two other ships, but nose to tail, not side by side. (think parallel parked ships).

In Tortola, we were starboard side to the dock, but there was an MSC ship on the other side of the dock, which would have been portside. I don't know if DCL could have been either or if they are assigned a side. Those starboard rooms would have looked into the portside rooms of the MSC.

On Castaway Cay, of course, we were portside to the dock. It was cool to get a photo of DH and DS still on the verandah, while other DS and I were on the dock. (they went fishing, while we went snorkeling).
