We're driving in and parking at the pier. We'll be staying outside of Manhattan (approx 30 mins away) and driving into the city the morning of the cruise. Should we plan on coming in over the GWB and heading down, or use the LT and head up, and why?

Thanks.

If it is just as easy to get to one as the other from where you are staying, I would go over the GWB and head down. If you do it this way, you are exiting to the right to get into the port area - so basically only dealing with the traffic on the West Side Highway. If you come up from the Lincoln Tunnel, first you are going several blocks into the city and have to come back out those few blocks to get back to the West Side Highway (can be a bit of traffic there that slows you down). Once you are there and heading towards the port you have to make a left across the highway to enter the port area. The light that you cross at can get very backed up (the one time our driver came up from the tunnel we sat at that light for almost 1/2 hour as it seemed that only a couple of cars crossed each cycle and we were quite a few cars back in traffic!)

Thanks @clten for the info. I was leaning towards the GWB for the right turn option into the port also. We don't get to NY very often, and when we do have always taken the tunnel, so it will be a different view for us coming across the bridge. Any idea what the toll currently is? Just curious. We do have EZPass so I think we get some type of discount?

We have ez pass as well so don't know the exact charges. I think the toll is up to $15 but the ez pass discount puts it closer to about $12 but that varies a little bit depending on if you are crossing at a peak time or not.

I'd go GWB, but if for any reason you have to go with the LT just get off the West Side Highway and onto 10th or 11th before the pier and then come in via 55th Street. 55th Street leads right into the port so you bypass the backup from the light on WSH.
