My daughter and I are DCL veterans, having done 10 cruises so far. But we will be taking our first on the Magic (7 night Eastern in December), as well as our first out of the Port of Miami. Any info or tips on sailing out of Miami would be greatly appreciated. We will be driving down from Tampa, and staying over the night before. I would love to hear about the best hotels to stay at, preferably ones that let you park there during the duration of your cruise (or if parking at the port is more convenient). Thanks in advance for any help!

I also have a question regarding parking at the Miami port - is it worth it or should we just take cabs from our hotel in Biscayne Bay?

We stayed at the Homewood Suites Miami Airport, Blue Lagoon. They offer free parking (well, last may they did). They have a shuttle to the airport for fee and from there you can take a cheap, fixed rate taxi. We took an Uber and it was less than $30 to the port. The hotel offered a port shuttle too, but it was more than the uber for 3 of us.

The hotel had a pool and breakfast and dinner, with beer and wine included for fee. It was good food too. Wifi was great too. We would definitely stay there again.

We loved sailing out of Miami, it was much more picturesque than the sailaway from Port Canaveral. We stayed at the Hampton Inn Downtown/Brickell, which probably won't be of any use to you as I don't think you could leave your car there for the duration. The hotel was lovely though. The terminal at Miami is not a dedicated Disney terminal like Port Canaveral and not quite as spacious or well organised. But still OK.
