Hi,

First Time Cruiser again. I think we should have our own designation - FTC's - lol.

Anyway, I was reading in the "Unofficial Guide" that rooms are not ready until 1:30, and that if you get on before then you have to keep your luggage with you. This led to a question I thought was obvious, but given this information may not be.

I assumed the Port was like an Airport, wherein your "checked" luggage was checked through and sent to your room, and you keep your carry on with you until you reach your room. is this the case, or do you take all of your luggage with you to your room like a hotel?

If the latter, can you leave your non-carry on luggage with a Porter to take to your room?

Thanks for the help!

Your assumption is right. When you arrive at port, your drop your tagged luggage, and those bags are delivered to your room later in the afternoon. Make sure to tip your porter. :-)

Anything you choose to carry with you, like a bag for medication, swimsuits, adult beverages, etc., must be kept with you as you board and until your stateroom is open.

FTC, how exciting! You guys will love it, ask as many question as you like. Most of us on these board are cruise lovers we don't mind helping out.
We check everything in, except a small bag with the kids swimsuits and a change of clothes. Our bags have always been in our cabin by dinner time, but just in case I bring clothes for the kids. I also bring my camera bag and personal documents with me. I have seen people walking aroudn with their luggage but IMO that is just crazy. I prefer to walk aroudn and enjoy the ship then draging around huge bags.

You are correct in your first assumption. "Checked" luggage will arrive outside your stateroom door sometime in the afternoon. You only need to worry about your carry on luggage.

If you are flying in the morning of (not recommended, btw), you can attach the luggage tags DCL sends you before checking your luggage at your home airport and it will be automatically transported to the ship and arrive magically outside your stateroom. If you are flying in the day before but taking DCL transfers from MCO, DON'T attach the luggage tags before checking your bags for the flight. Get your bags at baggage claim, then the morning of the cruise attach the luggage tags to your "checked" luggage and hand off your bags at MCO to be transported to the port and they will be placed outside your stateroom. If driving to the port, attach the luggage tags before handing your "checked" luggage to the porters at the port.

So, basically the things you would have if you were using DME at the resorts, right? Just in case.

Thanks for the responses! Lots of good information. We are staying at Pop Century the night before (going to the Epcot Flower show - my DW has always wanted to see it), and driving to the Port the next day. I was getting worried we would have to lug our luggage around until the room is ready! :)

You will take lots of pictures at Epcot. great time to go during that time. Just remember to have a small carry on for passports, medicine, camera, paper work for cruise, swim suits if you want to go swimming. You might not see your bags until 1700. Could be earlier. But don't count on them until around 1700. Enjoy your cruise

Thanks! I'm trying to talk DW into getting a park hopper do we can see River of Light at AK too

We always bring jewelry and electronics with us onboard along with swim suits. We get on as early as possible and find a table to leave all our stuff. Grab lunch and hit the pool. I have never been concerned about dragging out carry on bags with us every where. We just leave it at table and do our thing until rooms are open. We just got off the wonder and we had all bags Before sail away party. Do I was already unpacked by then. It was great. Especially with late dinner so I could just take s shower and relax until I joined the family at the first show about half way through.

If you are concierge, your room will be ready when you board (or it has for us typically in the past).

we always have a carry on because our DD is in pull ups, so we need change of everything incase there is an accident. Also, we keep the nice camera bag and lenses with us as well as one rolling case of bottled water that we bring on board.
