I'm sure this has been asked before but I can't seem to find it. We have an upcoming stay at the Riverside and don't know what building to request. I understand that it is just a request but what is your favorite building? It's just the two of us and would prefer not to be in the "Dog Building". I know service dogs are allowed in all the buildings and that's fine. We have a King room reserved.
thanks

I'm not totally sure which buildings are dog buildings, I know 24 for sure, but I'm unsure about the rest. There aren't very many.

To find a room you like, get on the Touring Plans room finder. It allows you to enter the type of room you have reserved and then pick other options such as how far you want to be from the main building or transportation. Then it will show you a list of rooms that fit the criteria. it's really helpful.

I would recommend making room requests of things like "I would like to be close to a bus station" or "I would like to be close to a pool or food court". I think you would be more likely to get your request granted that way. We stayed there last time we went and had a king room. The first room they assigned us was really far from the food court, which was more important to us than a bus station because I was pregnant at the time and we had our 2.5 year old so wanted to limit the walking when it came time to eat if we could. We were told that kings are only located in a few buildings and they ended up moving us closer to the food court.

Not sure how familiar you are with POR, but there are two sections: Alligator Bayou and Magnolia Bend. Magnolia Bend has mansion themed buildings and rooms and Alligator Bayou which, for lack of a better term, is more Bayou themed. Both are great but depend on preference. I'd suggest looking at pictures of the different rooms and checking out Touring Plans for more specifics

We were in the Mansions section. Magnolia Bend to be exact. So close to the quiet pool, the main pool, their own bus stop...Plus some real nice rooms....TBH, if we didn't buy into DVC, this resort & CSR would be our to go places.

There are no King in the Royal rooms so you know you won't be in those buildings.

So looking at the map it narrows it some.

For me what would be more important is inside the room since the two decors are quite different. If that matters to you, then I would request either Mansion or Bayou room.

If distance from the buses, main pool or food court an issue, then add that as your second request.

I wouldn't ask for more than two.

Well if you don't have Preferred booked then you know you won't be in those buildings.

If you're talking about buildings 14, 15, 18 and 27 there are King rooms in those buildings. So OP could be placed in one of them.

So they could get preferred even if they didn't book preferred? Have never booked King myself ... yet.

Well, I just read further down the page .......... that is a nice "loop hole" that you can basically get upgrades without paying extra just by booking King, and hopefully getting your request. That is a game changer.

There is no dual-classification between the various booking categories, each room falls into one specific band only. Thus all rooms with a king-size bed are classed as “King Bed” rooms, even if they also happen to be in Preferred Location buildings or may have pool or river views.

Also from PortOrleans.org.

Buildings are not categorized as Preferred at POR, only rooms are. If you look at the map on Andre's site you will see that building 14 has Preferred, King and River View rooms. Building 15 has King and Preferred. Building 18 has King, Preferred and Pool View. Building 27 has King, Preferred and River View.

So if you book a King, Pool or River View you will not get a Preferred room. BUT you could be right next to a Preferred room. :thumbsup2

Yup. It's the same thing at CBR. Most people have no idea.

We stayed at POR this year for the first time. I just wanted to make sure we were on the top floor and in the Magnolia Bend section. We absolutely loved being in the mansions with the quiet pool right next to us. We had no kids with us so it was relaxing to go swim at 11 am with hardly anyone in the pool.

Do the Bayou Kings have the single murphy bed like the doubles?

A follow up question, are Kings a preference or a booking category. I only ask, because we are a family of three. We typically just get two queens, but a king with a murphy would work fine as well.

I'm pretty sure it's either two queens, a king, or two queens with a murphy bed. I don't think you can get a king with a murphy.

We had a King room at POFQ and it was just the king bed with no murphy bed. We specifically booked a king room. I imagine it is similar at POR.

The murphy beds are only in the bayou section.

I've found at least one example to indicate they exist.

Yes, you can get a king room with a murphy bed. All of the rooms in AB have a murphy bed, and there are king beds in AB.

Follow up question to this: My fiancé and I are staying at POR late February-early March for 19 nights, with a King Bed room reserved. If we specifically wanted a King Bed room with NO murphy bed (we really want the dresser for storage purposes for the long stay), we should request to be in a mansion building, correct? Specifically, building 80 or 85? Just wanted to clarify before I call Disney to add the request to the reservation.
