PORFQ or CBR?

DH, DD5, DS10, and myself stayed at CBR in Nov'04. Liked it! Liked the food court (although busy at times), kids loved the pool, bunnies everywhere. We stayed in a building kind of far from main building but the walk to get there was very nice. The fireworks from epcot was nice. We got a dirty shower curtain and they brought us a brand new one quickly. Pizza delivery was cool. Last night there we finally got a towel animal. Just wish it being Disney and all that the mousekeeper could have done a little more. The buses to the parks always seemed packed. It seemed like we had to wait the longest for the buses to our resort than other resort buses. Other than that we will stay there again. Atmosphere is great.:thumbsup2

From the two choices, I would pick POR or POFQ. I think they are very conveniently located (near DTD) and have the best amenities out of the four moderate resorts. They are also smaller than CBR. Because of the vast size of CBR, there is a lot of walking involved from the Custom House (main building) to most rooms. :)

I would vote for POFQ. CBR is the least favorite resort I have stayed in.

I enjoy:

The size

Location to DTD

Atmosphere

You really wont go wrong with either, it comes down to personal preference

Having only stayed at POFQ I will only give a quick rundown of what we liked about our stay there.

*Small and has an uncrowded feel to it.
*Only a quick walk to bus stop/parking from all rooms
*Our waits for busses were usually 5-10 minutes.
*Only a 10 minute stroll to Riverside (or take boat if physically disabled)
*You can utilize all the activies at Riverside
*Loved the boat to DTD
*Great pool if you have kids
*Nice theming

No sit down restaurant but Boatwrights at POR is just a quick walk.

We have stayed many times at the CBR and have never been disappointed - we love the Caribbean Feeling - request a room close to the food court and walking will be minimal.....I have stayed at POR and can really say nothing bad about it other than it always seems like it takes such a long time to get to the parks.:yay:

I prefer CBR over all the other mods. We enjoyed all of our stays at all of them, but found the buses, theming and overall feel of CBR was the best for us. I loved the way you can see the high up fireworks of Illuminations from around the resorts. It is spread out, however, we didn't find it that much more so than POR or CSR. And frankly, POFQ was too small for us, and we really missed the quite pools and larer main pools of the other mods. They are all lovely resorts, however, I would never let bad reviews of any of them sway me, because they all get their fair share of not so great reviews! Before each of my stays at all four of them, I would read those bad reviews, feel a twinge then figure it would all turn out fine. And it did each time, CBR in particular just wowed my family and became our new favorite mod. There are plenty of great reviews of this resort on the dis, it has a loyal following.

If the theming of CBR appealed to you enough to book it, I would just stick with that and be excited for your trip! If the size thing bothers you, pay the extra fee and get preferred. Or request Aruba or Jamaica, they are both fairly close. As is Barbados where we stayed. We had a five minute walk along the lovely lake to the food court, two quiet pools very nearby and loved that location.

Good luck!

i was at CBR a month ago and enjoyed it. the first portion of the trip i shared with my parents and we used disney transportation to get around the parks. we stayed in the Trinidad South building. parents drove in the morning to Port Royale for breakfast. but i picked up a rental car when they left because i'm a bit of a control freak and did not want to rely completely on Disney Transpo.

the room was nice. quiet. felt like we were the only ones there with the occasional person.

they were doing renovation, but it was only occurring during the day while you are out.

CBR hands down.....It was perfect...and our Mousekeeper, Debbie, made it even more special with the attention she showed my DDS 10 and 2. I'd post pictures but my post count is too low. Debbie would leave all my girls stuffed toys (mostly mickey's and princesses) in different poses around the room...One day we'd find them in the tub. Another they'd all be tucked in sleeping. Another, Mickey was reading them a story ( complete with my glasses on his nose). She really made our stay special.

Been to both, and loved them both. My personal preference is CBR, yes it's bigger, but that's the charm for me, it is always relaxing and peaceful, it always seems so quiet, like having a resort all to yourself.

The first time we ever stayed on property, which was my first visit in almost 20 years and my DS first every, we booked CBR and loved it. The biggest difficulty for me was the walk from the bus stop to our room after a day of walking in parks. Of course, I had blisters, etc., doesn't everyone the first time? We like the Customs House Shutters and the atmosphere was great. Then when we went 4 years later we booked POFQ and the little things that bothered us at CBR was taken care of at POFQ. The walk from the bus stop to the room seemed shorter and we were the first stop/pick up on the route. My DS loved it and still requests it but we are trying a different resort every year. It just depends on your personal taste. In the moderates, the rooms are similar in size and decor it is the themeing that makes it special. If you like the idea of the Caribbean feel you'll love the CBR. Besides, if I am not mistaken they have a pirate treasure hunt there.
