Porcelain Dinnerware for everyday?

I use Villeroy and Boch for my everyday dishes. They cost more than my wedding china. I don't regret it even when a plate gets broken.

For over 20 years of marriage our everyday dishes have been English china. A couple of things have broken but I've been able to replace them at Replacements Unlimited. For the most part the kids are pretty good with them, although I use tupperware bowls for my toddler. Whatever you buy, make sure you can get replacement pieces or try to buy a few extra pieces up front if it is open stock, especially the pieces you use the most (I have extra dinner plates and cereal bowls). Have fun!

ETA: just noticed that you're looking at a set of 12. That's a great set! I especially like the mugs and small bowls, which should be very useful (as opposed to other china sets that have pieces you never use). With a set of 12 you should still be okay if something breaks.

I like that set!!
It looks durable. We use Fiesta Ware as our everyday. We have a 3-yr-old, and so far we've avoided anything being broken. But we don't expect that to last forever.
I'd say go for it. That's a pretty good price for an attractive, durable set like that. :thumbsup2

ETA: I too just noticed that it's service for 12. That's an EXCELLENT price!!!

I have a similar set (only service for 8) that I use but it's stoneware. I really like the colors offered on the one you are looking at. I'm going to keep it in mind when we redecorate the kitchen next year!

I love the set in the picture and the price is great so I'd go for it.

However, I'm guessing if you have trouble with breaking Corelle, you'll have even more breakage with porcelain.

Porcelain is the most durable because it's fired at the highest temperature. That's why stoneware/earthenware tend to chip easier, but are also glazed with brighter colors. I worked at Crate and Barrel for a while, that's what they taught us.

I think it says that the white is the only color that comes in porelain. The rest are all stoneware.

You will not regret it!

I think the heavier dishes like that don't break as easily as Corelle. We have a set that we've been using 17 years; our kids are 14 and 12. We have broken a few pieces over the years, but not enough to matter, and it was usually me or DH dropping one while loading the dishwasher and not the kids- lol.

My Corelle is 12 years old, it was service for eight but we are down to about 5 or 6 for plates and bowls. Not too bad for 12 years and 4 not so careful kids. They are older now, so hopefully they won't break as often.

This set is on sale now for 79.99 if you have the most recent flyer that came out.

I've always used stoneware or Fiestaware. I switched to Fiestaware because I got tired of trying to replace discontinued sets. I don't remember dd ever breaking a dish--I'm pretty sure it's always me that's dropping something so I have no one to blame but myself. ;)

I had pfaltzgraff, now have bone china. I've never owned corell, although when the kids were babies/toddlers, I had them use plastic.

We don't use china but we use Fiestaware. It doesn't break or chip easily and it's fun because you can mix colors. I have china but for good I usually use my Red Apple Franciscan. I have mostly the old and a few pieces of the Wedgewood now that they have taken it over. The limoges pretty much stays in the china cabinet as does the old english china.

We were married 21 yrs ago, and 2 kids later, our Noritake everyday (I think it may be a stoneware) is still going strong. It's very strong, and we've broken maybe 2 bowls and a plate. There are so many choices out there now!!

Back then, a lot of us registered for fine china, and everyday tableware. Lenox makes a lot of pretty everyday plates too.

Professional ceramic artist here, :wave2: among other things. I make handmade potter & dinnerware on a pottery wheel.

How cool! I love handmade pottery! Do you have a website where we can see your work? (or is that taboo to post it here?)

Anyway, thank you for the information - that was very interesting. :teacher:
