So now that I have officially cancelled our reservations for POP and am now booked to stay at POR I would like to hear the pros and of course the cons of this resort. We ended up spending 400.00 more to stay at this resort and I am sure hoping that I didn't make a mistake when choosing this resort. It is only myself and my husband going on this trip and after reading about some of the not so positive reports on POP I decided to go ahead and spend the extra money for a mod. So please reassure me that I won't regret this.

There are fewer rooms so the bus will not be as crowded as POP. There is boat service to DTD. POR has a wonderful entertainer in their lounge in the evening. POR has 2 sinks in the bathroom area. The room is a bit larger so you won't feel as though you'll hit the bed with the door. POR is older and more established so their landscaping is lovely and there are many trees. We stayed in Oak Manor and thought it was a very convenient location.
:moped:
I've also stayed at POP and just recently stayed at POR and POFQ. I much preferred POR and POFQ to POP. I would stay at POP again if needed.

  • They have a full service restaurant, Boatwrights.
  • They have a loung with nightly entertainment.
  • There is a marina where you can rent different types of watercraft.
  • You can rent bicycles and surrey bikes.
  • There is a jacuzzi spa.
  • They have nightly carriage rides.
  • There is a fishing hole where you can actually fish(catch and release) and view all types of wildlife.
  • The landscaping is beautiful.
  • There is a nice pool with a slide.
  • There are like 5 quiet pools.
  • We were there 2 weeks ago and it felt as if we were the only people there. It was very quiet.

No matter where you are, you will find the walking areas restful and pretty at POR. The food court has a wide variety of things so you don't get bored. (more than the usual burgers...they have pastas, taco salads, pizza, etc).
The boat ride to DTD is fun. The pool area is great (though the hot tub area needs to be bigger!). It is always quiet and no matter what floor we are on we've rarely heard sounds around us. We love Boatwrights...the food and service are excellent. The bus service is reliable.
Overall it is a wonderful place to stay. We prefer it over the deluxe resorts due to the tranquil feeling. You'll enjoy it!

About POR: We absolutely loved this resort, we didn't commmando tour the parks because we found POR to be a vacation in itself. When we stayed there last April it was 98% sold out. You would never have known it. We swam quite a bit in both the main pool and the quiet pool right by our room. Both were great and even the main pool didn't ever feel crowded and there were always chairs. The frig in the room was a huge bonus for us and the room decor was very nice (we were in the Alligator Bayou section). Our stay at Pop the preceeding January was a bit different. We certainly enjoyed our stay because the theming is fun and you are at WDW so what's not to love? On the other hand the resort was no where near capacity (it was very off season) but the place felt crowded morning, noon and night. The food court was like a dorm cafeteria. The food was fine it was just packed to the gills. Probably due to shorter park hours, everybody didn't want to waste park time eating dinner so they all headed to the food court to eat. Total nightmare. I cannot imagine what that place would be like if it was sold out. The room was very clean and nice but you could hear the conversation of our next door neighbors (wondering if they should refinance their mortgage). At POR we never heard anything, maybe the folks next to us were just really quiet, I don't know. After that stay at Pop our new criteria for a value was no more than 4 nights and we actually preferred All Star Movies because we liked the food court better. I would still stay at Pop but I would have to get a really great rate that would save me a sizeable sum of money before I did.

I think you will be really happy at POR. Have a great trip!

In June we decided to upgrade from ASM to POR. I was very happy we did. We loved the larger rooms, the beautiful grounds and the great pools. Also nice was the fridge in room and the privacy curtain between the bedroom and sinks. While we didn't eat at Boatwrights, the food court was nice. I think you will love it!

You will not regret this! I fell head over heels for POR and I really didn't expect to. We only booked there because AB is the only moderate that sleeps five. I was just floored by the beauty of the grounds. While very family friendly, it is also very romantic. You will love it!

We stayed there for our Honeymoon (Dixie Landings) and I just fell IN LOVE with it. It is sooo beautiful. The atmosphere is perfect. We bought an RV, so now we stay at FW, but one day DH & I may treat ourselves to a 2 nd honeymoon at POR.

Enjoy your stay!

vfb2girls-I just did the same thing-cancelled pop and booked POR for dh & I. I did love pop when we went this past Jan but POR just looks so much more romantic. What dates are you going? We will be there Nov 28-Dec 2. We were able to apply the YQE code and are only paying $60 more than we were paying for pop. I hope it is worth it. Patty

Thanks for all the encouraging reports on POR, We are going 3/07-3/12 so I am afraid we won't be seeing any codes or discounts being that it is peak season. But I was able to save some with my AAA membership so I was happy with that.

DH and I stayed at POR in Nov. 2003. I totally fell in love :lovestruc It's the only resort I want to stay at now (could never downgrade to value and can't see spending so much more for a deluxe). We stayed at Parrete Place and founf it to be a pleasant walk to the food court and bus stop. We loved the food court so much that we often came back for lunch. The quiet pool was wonderful and the resort itself was beautiful and relaxing to walk around. We can't wait to go back in 2007.
