I booked a preferred room and was told the are all in Alligator Bayou. The mansion buildings look nicer though and so do the rooom pictures I have seen. Are there any Mansion rooms that are close to the preferred section? Thanks:)

No, they are on the opposite side of the resort as the preferred rooms. If you book a preferred room ot WILL be in AB. However if you requested the end building in the mansions, it is pretty close to the main building also.

We've stayed in Mansions Acadian House and Magnolia Terrace, close to Old Man Island Bridge. These locations are quite close to Main Pool, and just across from pool, the food court, and main buildings. Close to bus stops behind the mansions too. Great location. I prefer the mansion theming too. The mansion at the other end, Parterre Place is pretty far from main pool. That was my least fav Mansion. And now it's Royal Rooms. But the other 2 I mentioned are regular rooms.

We were in AB this past Sept. and I loved it. We had a corner room in Bldg 15. Our front door and window faced the parking lot and you could see the main bldg. Our window on the left looked out into a garden area. It was a 2-3 min. walk to the main bldg. or the South Depot to catch the bus.

Have you seen the new rooms? If not, I'll try to post some of mine.

I've stayed in Magnolia Terrace, and it is a very quick walk to the food court. It also has the East Depot right behind it, so you are also very close to a bus stop.

The only way to be guaranteed a mansion room is to book a royal room, which are all in Parterre Place and Oak Manor. Both buildings are a hike from the main pool but just a walk across the bridge to the main building. If you book any other room type (except preferred), you can request the mansions and if they can fulfill your request, you will be in Magnolia Terrace or Acadian House. I've stayed in Magnolia Terrace and Acadian House and they were about equal as far as location but I think Magnolia Terrace is prettier.

I always thought I would prefer the mansion buildings as well, but I managed a few strolls through POR while staying at POFQ, and I was surprised at how much more appealing I found the Alligator Bayou section than I thought I would.

As per distances, the bridges connect everything together really well, so I think most rooms are fairly close to the main areas.

More so than curb appeal, I'd be concerned about the lack of elevators in the Alligator Bayou section, so when I stay at POR my first request will be ground floor or close to elevator.
I'd much rather walk an extra 100 yards pushing a child in a stroller than have to carry both the child and the stroller up a flight of stairs.

Yes, the AB section landscaping is very lush and pretty. I'm just not a fan of the room decor in AB. But I agree the outside is beautiful.

Just got back last week from POR and loved it. We stayed in AB section as well. Building 15. Loved it. So quiet. We are dvc ers and love this resort as much as a few of the villas.

Also wanted to mention to OP to make sure you are looking at pics of AB rooms post-refurb. The interior of the rooms before the refurb never appealed to me but after the refurb, they are drastically different in decor. Brighter, nicer, more appealing. I wouldn't hesitate to stay in AB now.
