So hubby is wanting the AB section for our trip. I have already made the ressies and requested MB. I think he wishes I would call and change that request..lol

So help me out here. I know this is a matter of opinion but which do you like best? Any certain room/section? Anything I should request? What do you like best about the one you choose?

I need some details..hehe

We've stayed in both and like different things about them. AB (bld 14) is very convienient to the main bus stop and the food court. The landscaping and wild look really grew on us. The quiet pools (three of them) are more freeformed. MB the landscaping is more manicured and symetrical, and the quiet pools (two of them) are rectangular. The decor of the MB rooms is obviously more "polished and refined", while the AB rooms are very rustic.

HTH,
Hope

Just came back from POR today. This time we stayed in AB last time we were in Magnolia Mansion. As you already mentioned it really depends on what appeals to you. I liked the AB section more. It just felt very cozy to me. I loved the meandering paths and little foot bridges. I love the free form quiet pool. The log beds are rustic looking and I loved the old looking lights above th beds and the sheer curtain draped on a rod iron to accent the head board. The landscaping in the AB section is quite lush and it helped keep things shaded which is a relief in the summer.

I'm going to write more about our trip tomorrow but once again we LOVED POR. Everyone was awesome and friendly. Clean, clean room and great mousekeeping.

You'll like either section. Which one appeals to you more, manicured or natural?

I personally love the manictured look. DH on the other hand really likes the rustic type look though..lol It is that from the pics th AB rooms did not look as pretty as the MB ones. I was just wondering if I was judging the ab ones too easily and they really are nice..lol I know hubby wants to stay in that side but I just feel like the mansions will be sooo much nicer. Again, I know this is totally dependent on what people like. Just kinda hoping for some ideas of what each was like..lol

All the choices that are to be made on a Disney trip..LOL

Ya know, I think it's totally an individual thing. I looked at room pics on www.allearsnet.com and I am totally not a Mansion person. They look pretty enough, but the room interior is just not my style. I love the more rustic look of the AB rooms and the grounds. Now, my DD......she was the total opposite of me and had a fit that we were staying in AB. (Although we don't have a choice because we need a trundle and AB only has the trundles.) She liked the looks of the Mansion rooms alot more. Different strokes for different folks. Plus, they have updated the AB rooms and the bedding is much more colorful now so it will be alittle different than the pics on allears.

Here's a link to some recently posted pics of the newly renovated rooms at AB:

I like the look now a lot better than what I've seen from the old pics on AllEars.

Thanks for sharing the pics LiteBrite! I enjoyed looking through them. I too love the look of the refurbed rooms! I can't wait for our trip. What building did you stay in?

These weren't my pics - they were posted by Mark, I think.

I've actually only stayed in the mansions at POR so far, but I've requested AB for our trip this October, so I was just as interested as you to see what the renovated rooms look like!

Hi:

I would love to try the bayou area, but what stops me is the dark wood trim in the rooms around the entrance to the sink area. I like the light and airy look.

Can anyone who has recently been there comment on how dark the wood around the sink entrance is. (medium dark or definitely dark)

Although I don't know if that would stop me from staying there, as the grounds look lovely. I like the colours in the bedspreads, and lights above the headboards.

Deb.

We have stayed in AB twice (we are a group of 5 so we weren't given the option of MB section). I didn't notice the room feeling "dark" at all to me. The furniture is rustic and the beds are comfy (even the trundle, I slept on it two nights myself then my 63 yr old mom got tired of sharing the bed with my 7 yr old princess of knees and elbows and she took over the trundle). The curtain between the bed area and the sink area outside the bathroom is fantastic, it made getting ready in the morning super easy...my son in the bathroom, my dad behind the curtain, my daughter in the corner by the bed, then my mom and I took turns with the bathroom and the curtain area. Honestly we didn't spend much time in the room and as long as it was clean we could have cared less. Fortunately for us, our Mousekeeper made arrangements out of my kids' stuffed animals/toys and towels. For example a newly acquired panda got a towel hammock and hung from the shades in the window and the husky puppy from Canada at Epcot got a towel boat. Once the kids brought back so many stitch toys, the Mousekeeper made the various Stitch toys put on a concert for the other animals...including multilevel stages for the Stiches and stadium seating for the others ...all out of towels.
We love POR and felt like the AB section was perfect for us, it was sooo peaceful, the MB section is pretty but seemed a bit too formal for our crowd. I originally thought that I would have preferred the MB section over AB but once I was there I quickly changed my mind!

I love reading all the opinions and thanks for the link to the newer pics. Anyone else have any recent pics of either side???

I think the dark trim wood was my drawback too. I was worried the room would be too dark and I like a more bright feeling..especially at Disney world..lol Still, I love the bedspreads on those beds better than the flower ones. :rotfl:

So are the AB rooms all redone? What about the MB section? Did they get refurbished rooms as well???

Hi, we are a family of 5 and we loved AB last year-it had a tropical, relaxing feel to it and lots of greenery. The quiet pools at AB are nice and my kids loved AB. I don't think they would've been as thrilled with the mansions but I might be if I were on an adult trip. Anyway, in general POR is a great place and you can't go wrong either way. You can walk over to the other section once you are and check it out. If you choose AB, ask for bldgs. closest to the food court (14,15,18,27).

POR 8/29-9/6

Both times in Mansion I was with my Mom, (DH once) & the kids. She enjoyed it. Victorian type charm, very feminine, formal inside and out. Quiet pools very simple like upscale apt pools, kids not interested.

Both times in AB I was with my DH & kids. They loved it ! DH preferred AB. They are rustic in theme, but you certainly are not camping. Just a very themed room. We loved the bridges, bogs, frog chirps and free form quiet pool. Kids enjoyed the pool for a quiet evening swim.

Being your DH likes the appeal and I see you have a boy, I would pick the AB side. I think your DS will love the "tree beds" as my DS called when younger.

We were Bldg 16 by the pool, great spot, only minutes to main area without being next to food court.
