POR-What building/section should I request?

I saw the recommended rooms in UG but wanted to hear what other DISers thought! Building 27 looks like a good location on the map but it isn't recommended....does anyone know why? I really want a quiet, peaceful room with a nice view near Old Man Island....can anyone help me?


And does anyone know the order of the bus stops?

we originally wanted building 27 and instead we got 39. We absolutely loved this building. It was by a quiet pool, close to a bus stop, and really not a long walk to the food court.

Did you choose 27 from a map, or did someone say it was a good building? I'm going to go check out 39 on the map now!

When we have stayed at POR, the bus stops at POFQ first, then goes to the Mason/Dixon Platform stop, then West Depot, North Depot and finally the East Depot then on to the parks.
I've stayed in bldgs. 35, 85, and 14. With bldg 35 I did use the West Depot stop. It was very close and seldom crowded. All other times I used the Mason/Dixon stop.

As far as bldg 27 goes, it is nicely situated. It is close to a bridge to Ol Man Island. As far as views go, I don't think any of the views are all that terrific. I've paid for a preferred view twice, and I wasn't happy either time. Now, I just get a standard view room. You will find that you will keep your drapes closed most of the time anyway. I hated it when I would leave them open and people would walk by, looking in the windows.
Most people want to be as close as possible to the food court. Bldg 27 is somewhat close. I would be happy in that bldg. The one good thing about it is that it isn't anywhere near the parking areas. When I was in bldg 14, which I loved, the only issue I had was that it was directly next to a parking area, and there was a ton of foot traffic from the cars as well as from the bus stop area. But, that wouldn't have been as big an issue if I had been on the top floor (of two in the AB bldgs.).

I am looking for the same thing, building in AB section. I am leaning towards requesting Bldg 27. But what about bldg 25, right next to a quiet pool, close to West Depot Bus stop and not too far from food court? Looks like there wouldn't be a chance for a parking lot view, is that correct?

It truly depends on what you like, what is important to you. Do you like to be close to the food court, a quiet pool, the main pool, the parking lot, a bus stop? What is important to some means nothing to others. We don't use the buses and like to be in a quiet location and not facing a parking lot. Others like to be near the action. Our kids are older (15 and 12) and we love walking around and exploring the area. If I had toddlers I might think differently.

I have stayed in 27 and 39 and loved both! I would NOT want to be in 14 (we were offered it once) but many people do want this location. Many think it is "the best". It really just depends on your preferences.

We stayed in AB25 last May. I did not request a particular building, just AB and non-smoking. You're right - it was near a quiet pool (and laundry), and the West Depot. Busses were great; we were the 1st stop, always got a seat, never waited long. No parking lots in sight - all in all a great location. I would guess it took about 5 minutes to walk to the lobby area - never timed it but not bad at all. I would prefer 25 over the more high-traffic areas. Good luck!

Thanks Binky! I think it sounds like a perfect location along with 27. Maybe I will request 25 or 27, then maybe a better chance to get one of them.
I would like to be away from the traffic areas and in a more secluded area. A little walk will be good for us before and after eating!

I'd like to be somewhere near the main pool yet not too far from a bus stop! Quiet is very important to me and I do not want to be anywhere near a parking lot.

From looking at the POR map, I think AB 38 and 39 might be good requests. Both are fairly close to the main pool, as well as the North Depot, and not within view of a parking lot. Check it out and see what you think!

I found maps in both the Unofficial Guide and in the Passporter but I'm sure there is one on here somewhere too. Maybe do a search for POR Map?

Go to www.allearsnet.com - click on Accomodations, go to Port Orleans Riverside, then Photos-Text Links. The first "photo" is the entire Port Orleans map.

I requested AB, non-smoking at the time I made my reservation. I would do it before check-in. When we checked in, they had assigned us to the mansions, but I asked politely and the CM was nice enough to switch us to AB.
