Booked POR for first time (w AP rates). Booked waterview only because I didn't want to get a parking lot view. Requested 1st floor because we have a double and single umbrella stroller to lug and didn't want to have to carry it to 2nd floor every night. Anyway, my question is, did I waste $90 (6 nights at $15 per night) extra for the water view? Also went back and requested either 14, 15 or 18 non-smoking room. Good requests? Any help appreciated.

I haven't stayed at POR yet-checking in on September 18 but we requested a standard view. Since the rooms do not have balconies and open onto an exterior hallway, I couldn't justify the extra $$. The only time you will see the outside is when you open you door & step out or if you open the curtains in your room. I DON"T open our curtains, I hate being in a fishbowl and I feel safer somehow knowing people see us in our room.

Also, I heard a waterview could either be a pool view or river view. I didn't want a room near the pool because I was concerned about the extra noise with 2 children trying to sleep.

I did request a first floor room because I don't want to lug stuff up & down the stairs either

We have stayed at PORS in the past. Like the above poster said there is no private patio/balcony. I wouldn't spend the extra money on a view at any moderate resort. The hallway/walkway's to each room are outside --- so with curtains open people will be walking past your room -- so much for a "view". Plus, the windows do not open.

Well.....IMO, booking waterview at POR-R can be a little better. I booked that for myself for our Oct. stay mainly because at POR-R the buildings are pretty large. Waterview may get us just a bit closer of a walk to the Main bldng and Ol'Man island pool if our room is on the river side of the building or even on the side near one of the quiet pools. I had a stnd room their though too and it's defenitly easier to get to the bus stops though so it depends on if it's worth it to you - I wouldn't do it strictly for the view though as for that reason it really ISN'T worth it.

Bldng's 14, 15 and 18 are in the AB section. If you like the theming over there than 14 is a great bldng. Close to the main bldng and bus stop. Not sure about 15 and 18. I prefer the mansions myself as far as decor. Magnolia bend is a great location;)

I booked waterview at FQ, just cuase I didnt want to look at a parking lot or something

I asked for riverview as a preference

I may have wasted the money, but I paid for it months ago, so I dont care anymore

Actually we don't have a choice to stay in the Mansion, since we're myself, DH, 2 DDs and ds. We need the trundle bed. I wasn't really looking for a "view" like the deluxes when I requested waterview, my thinking was I just didn't want to be by the parking lot and hearing cars coming and going with three little ones (hopefully napping sometimes!). I'm open to any building or view that's close to bus stops and food, even quiet pools. I'd rather walk longer to the pool when the kids are raring to good than a long walk from the bus stop when they're tired. Of course I bring strollers so maybe I shouldn't worry so much. this is our first time staying "moderate" I've only stayed at GF or Poly before, I want to make this trip easy and not miss the "deluxes" to much because we went (with AP rates) from paying $254 a night to $99 a night! At that price, I can see a lot more trips as long as DH doesn't feel like we've sacrificed too much by going "moderate". Actually from everything I read I think my kids might like it even more . . playgrounds, fishing hole, Bob Jackson lounge show, etc. The only thing I think we'll really miss is seeing the castle and the monorail, but $150 a night can sure make up for that!

The more conditions you put the harder you make it for them to find you a room. They may have to put you in a different bldg on 2nd floor in order to give you a view.

Waterview would be my last priority for reasons others have given. (Curtains closed, etc)

We have stayed in AB and MB so far. Both times we booked a water view. In AB it was a view of a quiet pool. In MB it was a 'peek' at the river. You couldn't see the water from your room, but you could if you went out onto the walkway. So, I didn't do a waterview room for this summer. Only requested non-smoking. If I were you, I would call them back, request a standard view but request that it be a non-parking lot view, on the first level. Bldgs 14, 27, 26 are nice ones in AB. 14 is close to the food court. 18 in nice also but is smoking opt.

Hi: We just came back from the french quarter and had building 4 looking at a very nice courtyard view. I did look at the rooms facing the parking lot, there was a stretch of trees and greenery in between the parkinglot and the lawns in front of the rooms, if that helps. Plus the lawn area in front of the room.

I will try to explain how the outside is set up, the groundfloor rooms have a lawn done up with shrubs, grass, or palms or trees, about 20 by 20 ft. in front of the room, some have hedges outling the lawn area, or some have low rot iron fences.

I did think the view facing the river were nice, building number 1 is close to the area for catching the boat to downtown disney.

The whole resort is so pretty, and the rooms inside are so nice, comfy beds, pretty decor, and the curtain at the end by the sinks really makes a difference for people getting dressed.

I myself probably would not pay for a riverview, unless I had a balcony to actually sit on. But saying that you can come out of your room and stand on the walkway that goes past your room.I guess it depends if you are going to be out most of the time. This resort is our new fav moderate resort,

Have fun,

Deb.
