POR v. CR

We are getting married at the Swan in June. Due to a high school convention that week, we were not able to get rooms there. :guilty: We booked our honeymoon at CR at $350/nt rack. I am praying that we can get a code and a lower rate, however we are beginning to wonder if CR is so good that it is worth paying the extra $$$. We've been to POFQ and walked over to POR for dinner one night and really liked the mansions. We are starting to think it might be a better deal to go with POR. We wanted CR because of the proximity to MK and couldn't afford GF or Poly. Now we are thinking that we could save the $$$ and just drive over to MK (our favorite park). Please give us some opinions? POR seems nicer for a honeymoon, but CR is soooo close to WDW. Btw...i don't really want to get annual passes as we will be moving to the west coast next year, so won't be back to WDW for a very long time. Thanks for all your help.

I would stay at the Wilderness Lodge! It is wonderfull for honeymoons, they have Honeymoon Suites that start at about $360. They are on the concierge level too! You must atleast stay 1 night there!

I felt that POR was just OK. It's your honeymoon, do something extraordinary.

Having just stayed there, I believe that POR is not much of a resort, more like a nicely themed hotel with very little going on there. I don't like crowds, but I actually found it a little depressing to be at POR after visiting some of the other resorts with all the goings on, etc.

Also, you can't open your curtains at POR because people walk by your room to get to their rooms, etc. That also gets old - being in your room with the curtains closed - you don't even know whether it's sunny or cloudy or even night or day. This being your honeymoon and all, you may want to spend some time in your room.....

There certainly have been discount codes in the past, but with all of the recent changes, all we can do is wait and see.....

If you really want to stay at the Contemporary on your honeymoon, you should do so at least for part of your trip. We are splitting our stay between CR and POR in March. We were able to get a code rate of $235 at CR for a garden view room and $114 for POR. I don't know for sure if they are still going to have codes with the new packages coming out, but I would think so. If you are on the boards a lot, you could wait for the codes, or you could transfer your reservation to Dreams Unlimited and let them deal with the codes.

Also don't give up on the Swan, if you REALLY want to stay there. Convention groups often reserve large blocks of rooms. If they don't end up being booked, the hotel will release them. I've never been bothered by convention groups at the Swan or Dolphin, but I haven't been there during a HIGH SCHOOL convention.
