Yes, I’d do the bus tomorrow. It’ll still be slow going though so hopefully you can get a seat

I'll be there for the half marathon in April actually, I just jumped into this thread to get some advice. :D For us that Sunday will be our first park day and then hopefully things will be less stressful after that.

We received a Marathon Weekend Impact brochure in our room. Sorry you did not receive the same information. It basically said avoid MK and Epcot until 11 am at all costs.

Which resort are you staying at? We did not receive one.

FYI, we left MK at 2 to come back to POR to rest and relax. We went back to MK at 6 p.m. and then came back to POR at 10 p.m. Bus service was working smoothly the rest of the day!

We had one in our room at FQ

We got on the DHS bus on a morning during the November marathons. The route the driver took to take us to the Studios was odd, but I’m sure necessary - or he was just lost. We ended up going under the MK welcome sign, past the Polynesian and back out towards the resorts again.

We were so confused and I actually thought we got on the wrong bus until I remembered the marathon. We missed all but 10 minutes of EMH too :upsidedow

FQ. checked out Friday.

We stayed at por the second week in Nov and had to wait over 40 mins to catch any bus to mk including a Christmas party night. I don’t remember it being that way a few years ago. Not sure what changed in fact all parks seemed busier also w 50,000 people being at mk one day and a 75 minute wait for it’s a small world!!!!

We stayed at POR first time in 2013 and buses were awful. Our first trip at all was in 2010 and buses were in general awful. It’s alwats been a gamble
Many have great luck with their timing and many don’t.

Be careful taking January and Princess weekends advice; I’m not 100% sure that Dark Side has the same race route or finish line. So it might not be exact info for you.

Wr were st SSR once (to particioate in the January weekend) and found such a flyer in a puddle on the ground outside our room. Sometimes they don’t quite make it into the rooms.

But do they not have the big signs up in the lobby?

There are signs regarding race details in the lobby but I don't recall that these address specifically the impact of the race on the guest, like the flyers in the room do. The signs are for schedule and route info for runners. So you may be able to deduct some info from them they won't really impart the same info, unless you are familiar with the routes and can deduct what the impact will mean

What is so funny is with our Magic Bands and on-line check-in we never stepped into the lobby. We were laughing at the thought that in this case, it might actually have helped if we would have checked-in with a real person. I guess there are pros and cons to everything.

Of course, the real root of the problem still rests with me. I just wasn’t prepared. The good news is we had a great time anyway! We ended our week long trip in MK last night watching HEA for the first time. It was amazing! It kind of brought tears to my eyes. And, thanks to all of the great advice on here, we had a great spot in the garden in front of Casey’s!

I bet that’s something Disney forgot to think about.

I forget bc we’ve never gotten a room ready text based on online checkin. So it’s still not part of MY disney experience.

You make good points. I can’t remember what was in the flyer; I was sick as a dog and trying to not die from the plague I had. And I was gone on NyQuil in an effort to just sleep it all off (while my poor son watched hour upon hour of Disney tv) before ds and I did the 5k then I did the half (I did have family to watch him for that).

Anyway, it’s a long way to say I don’t remember.

But...the signs in the lobby can help people who notice them to know that *something* is going on.

Why does Disney have marathons that disrupt peoples vacations causing problems getting to the parks? Do the runners run inside the parks? What's the thrill of running around the streets around Disney world? I would be annoyed if I had to wait hours because of a marathon. Why do them on the weekend when it's the busiest time?

It's a blast to run through the parks. Mostly they happen when the parks are closed. Just the end is when they are opening.

And it's not the busiest time. That was last weekend

It does sound like fun but when they said they closed the streets, I figured they were running in the streets around Disney. I'm sure Disney makes a lot of money off the marathons too, I know they are expensive.
