Changed our Oct 6th reservation from the Pop to the POR tonight:)

Is there anything I should've request? (a particular building)

How long dose the boat ride take to Downtown Disney?

How long dose the bus take to Downtown Disney?

Do you have to reserve the 4 person bikes?

How much will a taxi cost from POR to GF aprox?

How is the sit down resturant?

I can answer the boat question for you! The boat ride to DTD is apx. 15-20 minutes. A very enjoyable experience!

Boatwright's is POR's sit down restaurant. We've had good meals there, but my husband and boys love the breakfast.

Room request would depend on whether you would like to stay in the Mansions at Magnolia Bend or the Alligator Bayou.

The bikes do not have to be reserved.

We haven't taken the bus to DTD in a long time, but we think the ride was about the same time as the boat 15 -20 min.

We use the bus then the boat or monorail to each the Grand Floridian, so I can't answer that for you.

I'd be interested to know the answer to the taxi question too as we have breakfast reservations and I have read in one of the guide books that it's near impossible to get from POR to GF in time for breakfast using disney transport though people on this forum don't seem to think it'll be a problem so I'm hoping they are right!

I would request a room as close to the pool as possible. You don't realize how long of a walk it is from the bus depot to your room until you have sleeping children to carry.

The boat ride to Downtown Disney if I recall correctly only took about 15 minutes.

The taxi will cost you somewhere from $10-$15 to go from POR to GF. We were able to make it to breakfast at CR from POR without a problem. We took the bus to MK and walked over to CR. The buses run early for the breakfast crowd.

:thumbsup2 My family loves Boatwright's for breakfast. It is so relaxing and the food is awesome....try the stuffed french toast...Yummy!!!!

What is the differance?

Aligator Bayou is more of a rustic setting and feel with the views and the furniture inside. They have pull out trundle beds for families of 5. The Magnolia Bend consists of mansions and they literally look like something right out of Gone With the Wind. Go to Allears.net or right here on the dis and look at the pics that they have. They are both very beautiful and serene. I, however, prefer the mansions a little bit more than AB because I like how they look. But to each his own :goodvibes

Which ones are closer to the main building and theme pool?

The Acadia House and Magnolia Terrace in Magnolia Bend are across the way from the main pool. Oak Manor and Partierre Place, also in Magnolia Bend, are across from the main building, marina, and main bus stop. Someone else could probably tell which AB section is close to the pool and such because I have never stayed in those.

You will love POR. Boatrights breakfast is so good, in addition to the stuffed french toast try the sweet potato pancakes, the regular french toast (covered with cinammon sugar) or the eggs. In other words, you can't go wrong. Call for ADR, even if you decide last minute to head over from your room. Your name is put on the list and you will be called quickly. However, if there is a wait you can always head over to the nice gift shop while waiting.:rotfl:

The boat ride to DTD is really nice, you make a stop at POFQ, if you have time you can walk back from that resort, really nice walkway along the river. Just a warning about the bus from DTD. When it picks you up at DTD it makes a few stops, PI and DTD West Side. Then it has to go through alot of traffic lights. The bus does stop at POR first, but it really took a long time. I think waiting for a boat would have been a better option for DH and I. We were staying at POFQ that trip and had to stop at each of the POR stops before being brought to our resort.

The resort is large, beautifully landscapped and very quiet. We love AB section, but have also stayed in Mansions and enjoyed our room there. When our kids were young they enjoyed the boat ride to POFQ to swim. That was pre AK, maybe we had more time on vacation? LOL

We also rented bikes, and DH and DS fished one morning. There really is alot to do at this resort. Lastly, for some reason, even if the resort is busy it is relaxing:cloud9: Other than the food court (go to boatrights....)and check in areas, which can be crazy at times, it has a really "laid back" vibe.

Thanks so much for your post about Boatrights. My DH was concerned about where we'd eat, and I assured him that there's a restaurant there, we wouldn't have to go somewhere else to get food. Sounds YUMMY!!!:thumbsup2

Your descriptions have my mouth watering!!!

The upgrade from POP to POR is worth every penny IMO. We've stayed there twice and probably will again. Here's answers for your specific questions:

We requested and received rooms in the Magnolia Terrace building in the Mansions section both times. I like that one because it is right across a small bridge from the main pool and also has a quiet pool right next to it. Then, you are right across another bridge from the main buildings, food, store, etc.

Boat ride to DD is a very pleasant 15-20 minutes.

I recommend the boat over the bus to DD. We had to take the bus back from DD one night when we were staying at POFQ (I think it was after the last boat of the night) - it seemed to take forever, I'd estimate about 45 minutes with many stops.

We haven't done the surrey bikes yet, but there always seem to be several lined up not being used.

Haven't used a taxi because we always have our own car. We usually use the Disney transportation though. To get to GF, take the buses to MK, then ride the resort monorail around.

We've eaten at Boatwright's twice - both times for breakfast and we've loved it. On one trip most of us thought the banana stuffed french toast was the best meal of the trip. The big food court is fast and has good food too (though it could be organized better).

I would recommend this resort to just about anyone. We are working our way around and will probably eventually stay at all of the Disney resorts, and this was the first one we stayed at a 2nd time.

I was hoping to make some instant oatmeal in the room for DS 3. Do they have coffee makers in the room? I would guess that they don't because they want to spend as much money as possible! :rotfl:

Another great post about POR! Keep them coming! We are staying here for the first time in October, and WE CAN'T WAIT!!! We are looking forward to a calmer resort than the All Stars! I have not planned out every minute of our trip this time so that we can actually enjoy the resort!!! Vacations are for relaxation too! I don't want to be doing the commando thing the entire time for this trip!

We just got back and stayed at POFQ. We took a taxi from our hotel to WL for dinner, and thought it was well worth it. (late dinner res & tired kids!) It took about about 10-15 and cost $12/each way. I assume it's about the same distance to GF. We also had reservations at the Contemporary, and did the bus to Epcot, then monorail. This took about 45 minutes. Just depends on your reservation time and how earily you want to get up. Either way is good.

Yes, they do have coffee makers in the rooms there....You will be all set for making your oatmeal!;)
